It seems like every show (anime or not) has that ONE guy that keeps me from liking every character. Outlaw Star it's Jim, DBZ it's Trunks, etc. but I actually think all the Trigun characters are pretty damn groovy (maybe cause there's only 4 of them...). What makes a good character in your opinion? I guess Trigun has my 4 biggest favorite types baked in for yummy goodness.

Wolfwood - the 'bad guy' who in the end redeems himself

Millie - the 'fool' who in reality holds the most insight and who believes in goodness and is a little naive because she believes in the goodness of people's hearts

Meryl - the stubborn prideful one who in the end submits to something... be it love, a cause, etc.

Vash - the joker; the one forced to fight despite his wishes

Maybe I just went off on this for no reason, oh well.

I totally agree. Trigun has some of the most finely crafted characters ever seen - that's why it's my favourite anime.
Even Legato isn't irritating... sure, you might hate him, but you enjoy hating him, you enjoy seeing the interaction between him and Vash. And once Vash starts going all freaky on you... you've seen his many faces, or at least a few of them. Everyone is so fascinating and wonderfully crafted. And what's more, Trigun achieves this WITHOUT making all it's characters pessimistic manic depressives! :)
