Why do they change the names of things? Should I steer clear of this and get the sub?

No Samurai X is not crap - but if u are referring to the dub, yes i suggest you stay clear of it

I just heard from people that they butchered the series in the dub. I haven’t seen the series yet but I was wondering which one to buy?

well, the dub is not that bad - in my opinion, the RRK dub is better than Eva dub.

but w/c one to recommend... go for the subbed series start at ep01 and move upward. as much as possible finish the Shishio saga. but if you want to go all the way, the better.

im not sure if id recommend the OVA's as a starting point to RRK. ive only seen the second OVA but personally, its best that you see the OVA's when your more familiar with RRK and want to know more about his past - OVA's animation is also different from the animation used in the series.

I think the ova art is better personaly... get the Subs no matter how good a dub is its always crap compared to a sub.....

well its about this former assassin turned good guy since he wants to atone for the sins he has committed. however his past keeps comming back to haunt him and he has no choice but to face them.

the fight scenes are really good - mainly swordfights. but i suggest you pickup a few eps to see what its all about - take the advise i gave Shadow War

Personally I prefer the OAV to the series. I like the more serious and realistic tone in the OAV as well as the music and characters. As far as dub vs. subs go, I can watch a dub as long as it is tolerable, but for Kenshin, the Central Park Media dub is CRAP. I saw it at AX Kenshin sounds like a cross between Forrest Gump and Dr. Suesse. "Those are soldiers, they are." The Kenshin Sub from ADV is extremely good and contains some of the best script writing I have ever read/heard. Overlall the Kenshin OAV is really good but takes away from some of the mystery of the series about Kenshin's past. I started with the OAV because I just think its better. BTW, how is the sub for Kenshin TV? I heard it was pretty bad but am unsure. Does anyone know?

Hmmm.... Why does Rurouni Kenshin sould sooooooooo much better than 'Samurai X'? Can it be because its in the original language!? Why ...yes!!!!!

Dubs usually suck... But for Ranma½, I can make -one- exception.

personally i dont have any problems with the dub (voices are relatively ok) - but as usual, the sub is always preferred - you can really tell the difference in terms of the dialogue

ive heard that, thats why its not called samurai x coz kenshin did not come from a samurai family. is this true?
Yahiko was from a well known samurai family right? so he has the right to be called a samurai.

well you have to remember that the english translations dont usually have anything to do with the story itself. but anyway, i think they called it samurai x bec. of the "X" scar on his cheek...

as for Yahiko, his father was a samurai and bec. of that his family was honorable. my Samurai knowledge aint that good so i'd rather not continue with whats on my mind at the moment :heh:
