If you remember a few weeks ago, you guys were talking about the 2nd impact, and stated it was on the 13th of September 2000.

Now a few days later, some crazy drunk guy came into my work (pizza shop :) and started blabing about his religious beliefs. As well as stating that adolf hitler was really an alien, and ufo's are devils, he said the world was going to end on the 13th of september this year. He said it was because isreal would be invaded by the chinese army. Now i know this is all to do with Revelations, but what's with the date??? i asked him, but he just told me to "find jesus" and read my bible! Is this a commonoly used date from "end of the world" freaks or what???

didn't good old nostradarmus (sp?) predict the end of the world sometime this year too?

Basically for thousands of years people have been preaching the appcolypse. Popular dates are set, for when they were expecting the appoclypse. A big major scare was during 666AD, many people were crying about the world ending, another was 1000AD and now 2000AD, they just sound good, even after 100 years from today, more writings will of been found predicting the end and crazys will always been preaching the end. The people who interpretetd nostrudausm say it will happen between 1999 - 2015. Yeah.. right. Numerous others so could 'prophits' predict the end. I believe that in the bible know date was mentioned for the appoclypse, for if it did, alot of people would be worried, revelation just states the end WIll Evntually come, but I dont think I date would of been set. It was said would happen when the room of Guf is out of souls and mankind was filled with more evil than good, or some stuff like that...

Must have been really freaky to have that happen though. I bet you were thinking about it all night and not getting much sleep. (maybe this crazy man knows something hehehe)

But yeah there are many predicitions about the end of the world and most have been wrong (to my knowledge). The bible is not too clear here either, it gives the condititons to look out for but no set date (we could just all agree to leave it off the calendar and miss it)

of course if you know of the earth crust displacement theory, we are overdue for a major cataclysism, by a few thousand years i think (so any day now!!!!)

Bad, bad, bad. Didn't you mother tell you not to talk to strangers, even if they offer you candy? =)

More seriously, the guy was drunk. People usually say and do weird stuff when that happens to them. Their stuff becomes even more weird if they're the type who prefer hanging out at pizza joints instead of bars and clubs. He was probably a fan of Eva too, and confused fiction with reality, thinking that the Second Impact will occur later this year.

"didn't good old nostradarmus (sp?) predict the end of the world sometime this year too?"
Close. "Nostradamus". =)
I think his doomsday prophecy was last year, some unspecified date of July.

so no ideas about the date? is it just co-incidence that evangelion and this nut chose the exact same day? i'm very sure he wasn't an nge fan - and he wasn't totally drunk, just talkative...

The point is that humanity's time is running out. If an apocalypse doesn't take place then we are gonna destroy ourselves. Also that guy might of been a religious nut in some cult or might know something we dont' so we dont' know that for sure. Also Nostradamus did indeed predict the end of the world last July but although he was a great prohpet the old man was bad with dates. He mispredicted his own death by a day or so so the end could still be coming so watch out. If it happens it happens. All you can do is grab a six pack of Yebisu (or Boa) beer and go back to watching Evangelion.

yeah but Nostradamus made it very clear that his predictions are base on the premise that our history in the making follows a path where we had no knowledge or did not act upon any knowledge of his predictions or forseen events...

it's the predicted outcome - where actions by humanity can slightly change forseen events...

i had the whole Nostradamus writings on my old computer somewhere - even printed a copy to read which was as thick as the Yellowpages

that was a long time ago though...

It's already over.

I saw once on TLC or the History Channel where they were talking about doomsday myths, and one thing that really hit me was they were talking about 666 (or 999 I forget) being the number of Nero Ceaser and that the "end" of the world (Rome) would arrive with him.

That would mean the world has already ended.
Think about it. For the most part the old gods are dead (Summarian, Egyptian, Greek/Roman) even the Cristan god is being absorbed into a mono-detiy (Gaia, Manau and all that), most "majic" is gone, replaced by sciences.

You've know the words: "It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine"

"But yeah there are many predicitions about the end of the world and most have been wrong (to my knowledg)" HAHAHAHAHAH LOLOLOL

Well Nostrodamous predicted sveral endings, he did say a date, which has gone and past, but his quatrains go upto 2015. Also he speaks of a "slaughter house of Olympia", and Wheres the Olyompics this year, Sydney! And what was homebush (where the olympics are) before they were the stadium, it wasa pig slaughter house. So many predict that it will happen during the olymptics. Their a many many people who inderprete Nostradamous, and generally they agree the ending is foldold happening between 1999 - 2000.

I read a funny series of Uni paper articles on extracts from Nostro
which have popularily believed to be related to predicting Hitler or
JFK's death or whatever and applying them to the current cricket series of the time
and Mark Taylor's form etc....

The catch 22 is we can always read into the text and find coincidenses that have happened somewhere in the extensive history books
and if nothing does match Nostro fans can always say-we 'acted upon any knowledge of his predictions or
forseen events...' 'We changed our ways'.

here's something i remember about the translations from Nostradamus...

did you know where the lady who wrote the translations got them from , after all they weren't in English ?

Well from the scripts i remember saying that the lady was some kind of psychologist or something and she had a student under her, this guy (student) claims to be in a past life the student of Nostramadus or someone who followed and assisted Nostramadus with his writings.

Under forms of hypnosis the lady was able to get the student to communicate with Nostramadus himself in his past life person to aid the translation...

as anyone who does psych 101 knows hypnosis ain't that accurate

but that's what i remember about it.... i should try finding those scripts actually... when i have time

Make me remeber the line from Babylon 5 (and I paraphrase):
"A prophecy is a metaphor that happens to come true."

As an aside

the Bible itself is not really any good for prophecy anyway.

Prophecy as i have been taught is when something is predicted and actual time frames are given, not just when such and such happens, as it occurs in the bible.
