Sub vs. Dub?????

Ok, I have access to buying Subs, but the are sold out for 2 weeks. I couldn't wait so I bought the first 5 dub tapes, $125 OUCH!

Anyways I plan on getting the rest of the series subbed(way cheaper!), but i wanna know what you guys think about the Sub compared to the Dub. Are the Dub voices bad, like a ceratin blonde haired senshi of love and justice Dub, or is it Ok?

I haven't heard any of the Japanese voices, besides knowing that Japanese Gundam Wing Heero and Duo are VA's.

So basically my question is: Does the Dub Suck compared to the Original Subbed???

The dub is evil. End of story. Here are some of my reasons for saying this:

- Tamahome in the dub is also Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

- Chichiri sounds like a hick

- Tasuki sounds like he's from Texas while Kouji sounds like he's from Brooklyn. They speak the same accent in the original version!

- People sound like they're reading from a script most of the time.


Midorikawa Hikaru (Heero's seiyuu) is the voice of Tamahome

Duo's seiyuu is Seki Toshihiko, and does not show up in Fushigi Yuugi. He is often confused with Seki Tomokazu, who is the voice for both Chichiri and Kouji.

However, Zechs' seiyuu, Koyasu Takehito, is in Fushigi Yuugi ^_^

Get the subtitled version. The dub is only useful if you want to torture somebody or if you want to make fun of it.

In the dub I found Chichiri to be very annoying. Considering he ending every sentence with ya know. At least in the sub he says no da, and it is not as annoying. The dub is not as bad as BSSM but it is not too far behind. I liked the sub much better.

My advice, GET the subs.

The dubs destroy the authenticity of anime itself. Especially, when it comes to CERTAIN characters in Fushigi Yuugi. Those english dubbers should be flamed! :naughty:

I've always wondered how one of my favorite jokes carried over to the dub from the sub....now it's been a long time since I've seen this so don't holler if I get it wrong.

Miaka and Yui are sneaking out (prior to the whole Tamahome/kiss/i only came back for you bit) and I *beileve* they're discussing Nakago. Anyhow I think it's Yui that says "Maybe he's an Ojin" (I think the translation was 'foreigner') but Miaka pictured a dirty old man looking up Yui's dress and said "Old lech??"
So how would that joke carry over since ojin doesn't mean a thing in english and the whole pun was the double meaning in Japanese?

Okay, I'm going to sound entirely un-modlike here and probably not terribly mature, but this desperately needs to be said

Sub vs. Dub: Screw that BS.

Don't waste another damned second of your time talking about it. I don't mean offence to anyone who has dissed the dub specifically, I know you do it out of love for the show, but this nonsense is tearing the anime fan community apart and I'm sick of it. If you dislike the dub, don't watch it. If you like it watch it. You're entitled to your opinion, but there's no reason to start fights over it.

Look, we're lucky enough to have a choice. If you don't like dubs don't buy them, and if enough people feel that way they won't make them anymore. Obviously, not everybody feels that way.

The FY dub isn't the best dub there is, BUT I find there are some guilty pleasures in it. It's personal opinion, but I find Tamahome's voice much sexier in English, and I like my Tamohome's sexy thank you:inlove:. just because the voice actor did the voice of Leonardo in TMNT doesn't mean he IS Leonardo, and what the hell is so bad about Leonardo? Isn't the VA, Sean Barker, a pen name for David Hayter, who also was the voice of Snake in Metal Gear Solid? That I find sort of cool.

It's not great, but I too bought the first few VHS in dub because working behind the counter at a drugstore did not entitle me to be choosy. It was buy the dub or buy less anime, and if you're telling people to buy less anime, than who is REALLY the truer fan.

I hope bi-lingual DVD's kill this argument. Kill it extremely dead, deader than eighties hair metal. Because I think this is the forth time I've tried to break up this kind of argument in the last few months.

I wasn't trying to argue, Yui. I was just trying to state what you just said: that it's my opinion that I prefer dubs and if these people prefer subs, that's fine, too. I'm not trying to change their opinion. I'm just stating mine. So, I'm with Yui. Let's not argue over this, ok?

I personally like the dub, then again all I've seen of the sub is the bus trip. but while watching the dub I've never found anything wrong. I dun even find Chichiri's "ya know" annoying. I guess you only have to get used to it, and dun always want to find the error ^^;

And you want a bad dub? Check out Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer, which is the only dub I've downright hated! *shudders from recalling Mendou's awful British accent*

No no, Riding Bean is by far the worst dub. I am a dub fan, don't get me wrong, but that one is just plain awful! they even redubbed the sound fx
