Hey,
Any "Excel Saga" fans around here? (Notice I refrained from "In da house?")
Yes, I enjoy the occasional lapse of sanity :)
I have managed to collect up to episode 12......

I like the series... I've only seen about 8 episodes though... It's one of the wierdest anime series I have ever seen... That's why I like it...

I always saw Excel Saga as a ferret on Pixy Sticks. I just hope ADV gets off their collective ass and puts in on DVD (HA!).

Yes Excel Saga is an amazing series, I have eps 1-14 and it just gets better as you go along!
Episode 13 was the recap episode and it was so perfectly executed you could barely even tell it was a recap episode!
And if you don't laugh at the intro to episode 14 the is something wrong with you
Flys up totally naked- "Ahhhhh even hell is heaven!!!!"
Also Nabeshin rules!

Episode 13 kicked ass (dominoes!), and 14 left me and my friends rolling on the ground. My personal favorite is episode 3, ("Nabeshin's NO ESCAPE!), probably because of those gadawful Chuch Norris movies I grew up with, and partly because of the Engrish in it.

Why won't ADV get off their collective arses and release that damn show already!? It's torture, I can't wait to see it and I haven't even seen one episode!
Adv has become this monolith that buys dozens of shows and then takes their sweet sweet time releasing them....I understand it takes time to do it properly, but god it's tough to wait......

I think ADV does this on purpose, just to see how much they can ---- off fans. I mean, how much did they probably pay for the US rights to excel? My guess is about $5. That and they email all the fansubbers to stop subbing episodes. And need I bring up the Evangelion 3-episode DVD's?
And taking their time for a good DVD is one thing, but when the disc comes out with next to no special features (interactive menus and chapter searches ARE NOT SPECIAL FEATURES!!!) and the video and audio quality is only a bit higher than VHS, one has to begin to wonder.
Getting back to Excel Saga, I like Nabeshin, but Menchi playing with the chain gun has to take the cake.

I get pissed about some of ADV's antics too, but I think you may be oversimplifying a bit Cyclops. They certainly paid more for the rights to Excel for $5, and when you consider that the huge Evangelion fanbase had ALREADY bought the series on VHS, they may have been unsure of the profit margin for the DVDs. Sometimes low episode counts per disc are due to greed, and sometimes they're due to trying to turn a profit, since the anime community is still essentially smaller than the community that buys DVD movies (etc. half the world and maybe more). I don't know for which reason ADV went with three eps. but it seems unfair to just assume it was greed. I sure as hell wasn't buying Eva again after shelling out for the tapes.

I can see the hesitation to buy the DVD's of NGE after shelling out for the tapes, but for a hard head like me, I like to know I have the peace-of-mind knowing that my demon VCR won't eat my tapes. And I was exagerrating about the rights to Excel costing five bucks, it's just that ADV probably didn't break the bank getting it. My biggest beef still is a DVD that doesn't have jack squat on it features-wise. I'm all for companies making a profit and trying to cover their investments, but I just wish some would take a little more time considering the little guy actually BUYING the product, that's all.

Actually there is a reason the Eva DVDs don't hae good extras, Anno Hideki did not give ADV the rights to use any of them. I think he said something along the lines of that he was displeased with Eva's release in America.
IMHO ADV puts some really good extras on their other DVDs, good examples would be Gasaraki(interviews, liner notes, glossarys, production sheets and much more), Kenshin OAVs EXTENSIVE liner notes on the time period), and even Nadesico(Interesting liner notes, clean OP/ED)
I for one am looking foward to ADV's release of Excel Saga and I know that the reason we are waiting so long for it is because they are putting extra effort into the difficult proccess of translating such and insane show and I think people should stop their ADV whining, they have been great to all the anime fans for picking up and releasing a wide varitey of awsome anime
