View Full Version : The Guitar
I've been hearing speculation on why there is a guitar used as a weapon in FLCL, and thought I'd mention that the creator, Mr. Tsurumaki, mentioned at Otakon that he chose a guitar based on a J-Rock song. I believe it involved having a pizza boy at your house, and then wanting to be hit on the head by a guitar. This song might've been by the pillows even, I can't remember. (I remember hearing the guitar thing, and being, er, intrigued). AS FLCL is heavily involved with Japanese pop culture, I suppose this makes some measure of sense.

Why, it's the perfect weapon of course! It's guitar/lawnmower hybrid; ingenious!
I thought I'd add that I envy those who've seen FLCL....a lot. I've been quickly absorbing as much info as possible in these last few boring days, and can only hope that Point-Sync (that's the right distributer, right?) comes out with it faster than Manga with the Eva movies (grumble, grumble). I wonder what they're smoking over in Gainax land?

Cheese!!!
Cheese, eh? I doubt it. Is cheese even popular in Japan? Of course, that isn't the point at all, is it. I must say it's cool that you had a cousin that worked for Gainax, though. I'm certain the employees of Gainax are weird and funny, it's probably a job requirement.
Well, as everyone should know, a guitar is also commonly called an "axe."
In fact, it's so widespread it's rather cliché, especially in the black metal community.
