I have yet to see the series, but from what I heard it is really good and I should really look into getting it. I was wondering, the series is called Furi Kuri, correct? But why does everyone say FLCL? Is that an abbreviation of some sort? And if so, what does it stand for? It's just a question I've been pondering...Thanks for the help!

In the first episode of Furikuri, in the 'hospital scene', Haruko says 'Flyctonic Cliple Weber Syndrome' at which Naota replies 'FL...CL...? (Furi...kuri...?)'.
I understand the FLC (FLyctonic Cliple), bau I don't know what the last L is about

ok FLCL and furi kuri are the same two words ......
FLCL is the real title in japan...
but low and behold there are no friggen L's or C's in the japanese lanuguage...
L basicaly traslates into a R .......and
C basicaly translates into a K....
and like in all japanese words or letters.... or so ive been told they nead to end in a constinate...(.. or whatever..) <----:dont quote me on this part:
so thats where the I's and U's come from making it furi kuri....
it actualy makes sence if you have the right person describe it the reason to ya......
but since im the only one hear right now your probably more confused than ever ... ^_^
dont ask me why they insisted on wanting a unpronoucable name in there laguage for their title.... its probably around the same reason that a giant iron is the main antagonist....
*shrugs* crazy gainax

That's a very good theory. It makes a lot of sense.

Well Thats exactly what I had heard about the title.
Another theory I had was that the title could be a play on the word FREAKY. Your suppose to say FURI KURI so fast that you cant hear the "u"s. If you do this right it sounds a lot like the word freaky...although this probably isnt the case but thats what I think and Im not the only person who thought of it so :p

Nothing, its a made up word from what I can tell, Its true meaning is never said (some “obvious” false meanings are given), but really only hints are given,
I’m going to say it means ((touchy feely)) tho just because that what is implied

My fansubs said something about furi kuri being slang for fondling a girl's breasts or but or something but I just read this, so apparently they were wrong:
According to FLCL director Kazuya Tsuramaki at Otakon last weekend,
Quote:
Just as with Evangelion and its mysterious title, fans wanted to know what the letters FLCL meant. "FLCL means fooly cooly," Tsuramaki replied. "I thought that meant `fool and cool.' At the time we needed a title desperately, so we used that. I always wanted to make a title from an English name made shorter, like `pocket monsters.'

here (http://www.fansview.com/2001/otakon/081101d.htm)
...All this time I thought it was a Japanese phrase and it turns out to be English (...or at least Engrish) :heh:
Wooo...thanks Kano Miyazawa for giving us the info.
We now finally know what it really means.

I don't know if you guys have seen The Pillows music video of 'Ride On Shooting Star' but in the video the three members of the band wear these t-shirts.... One's shirt says 'FOOL' one says 'COOL' and one says 'TOOL'. I dont' know what the tool one is about though...
