Okay someone will probably bag on me for this, but I was wondering why its called "Martian Successor" Nadesico? I'm thinking this is Akito, the boy from mars, but I'd like to hear some feedback on this one.

And please avoid spoilers (or at least give warnings) as I still haven't seen the last disc and have been trying extra hard not to read about the ending.

1 He is a Martian from Mars

2 He a successor of many things

3 He live's, sleep's, eat's, and breaths on the battle ship Nadesico

that is my quick thought. I might go more in depth latter.:D

its an intersting thing, because the title depends on the translation

its either

martian successor (official translation)
mobile battleship (fansub tanslation)
really big battleship (literal translation)

Okay, maybe a better question is what is the original Japanese title? And a as a second question, what was the reasoning behind it?

Thanks.

I always thought the series was Mobile Battleship Nadesico and the Movie was Martian Successor Nadesico: Prince of Darkness. I thought this because the enemy in the movie call themselves the Martian Successors.

I guess it's just another wacky, japaneese, pointless and confusing title;)

Hi, I'm new here, but I've seen the whole series, and this seemed like as good a time as any to make my first post.

Warning, spoiler. If you still see the spoiler then use a lower resolution in future :-)

I think it's called "Martian Successor" because the entire focus of the Earth-Jupiter war is who will "succeed" (ie inherit) Mars, and hence the Martian relic which is the key to the war.
