i was gonna question that myself.. he usually gets horns but why ears? i mean i know it goes with his part in the play... could like there be some.. thing.. that makes his head protrusions match his situation (that sounded really weird O_-) oh well... whatever

I was always just under the impression that whenever naota grows a furi kuri horn its just a protruding part of the robot that is soon to be dislodged from his skull....
its just showing thru as to let naota know that its ready to come out whenever he is...

So if this above part is true which seems reasonable enough to me ...
then the "cat ears" were just the bottom part of the legs of the robot when it came out... they just had the look of cat ears...
when Ninamori gets the horns in the end you can kinda see what im talking about when the robot comes out of her head...

tis just a happy coincidence that the rest of the episodes story line revolves around a play about "the puss in boots"..... :rolleyes:

I also think it's part of the thing mecha that comes out of his head, like the horns. (I'm not 100% on FLCL terminology btw.) (Ep 5 spoiler) Kinda like how the gun comes out of the back of his head. I think the ears (which look like they turne dout to be two of the three (?) feet of the thing) got transferred to Ninamori. Tho maybe I need to see it again.

yeah, i knew they were part of the robot, but its really coincidental that they were shaped like cat ears... almost TOO coincedental...

Personally I like the scene when Naota has his face shadowed and you could see his ears twich :D
