The directors cut was basically a few newly animated scenes that Gainax put into the Japanese LD and DVD versions of the series. They were in the last few episodes. The purpose of these was to make the events in DandR and EoE make more sense. As to whether or not they are ever going to be released in Oz or anywhere else is not known at the time. Did you see the crap job that ADV did on the Eva DVDs? From what I hear the DVD's are a bastardizaton of Eva. Really they suck ass. They cover up every bit of Japanese text with stupid cheezy overlays. They even altered that pic that Misato sent to Shinji to get him to come cuz those American idiots found it a little too revealing(what was revealing about that). The image quality was also amoung the worst you will ever see. ADV did an excellent job on the VHS versions cuz those were crystal clear, only but subtitles on important text and was uncut. So what the hell happened on the DVD's? Hopefully once they get enough letters and complaints they will redo it properly.

Just a quick comment on the ADV DVD. Yes they covered up the Japanese text with english, but they made it look better than the simple text overlay they did on the VHS versions. You couldn't read the whole signs on the VHS version in the first place, so what does it matter. About the picture of misato, I can compare it because I don't have access to anything else. Is it uncut on the VHS version? The image quality is far superior to the VHS version. Perhaps you have some bad cables going to your TV, but on mine it looks much better than VHS. I plan on eventually purchasing all the Region 2 DVDs from Gainax anyway for posterity.

Mines Zone 1, which means USA and Canada, Japanese is Zone 2, and it is raw jap (no subs, no dub track) and most importantly its over 150 bucks on import. I almost got it along with Macross II but common sense prevailed
