Otakon 2002

Anyone already planning on going or looking forward to Otakon 2002? Its going to be at the Baltimore Convention Center again and will be August 2-4, 2002. (knowing hotels they'll be booked up by next week, lol)

I go every year! next year i want to be Genma. Don't think i'll be able to find panda costume that matches. maybe i need custom or make from an existing bear costume. Or maybe Penn Penn. Someone weird. This year my group we all dyed our hair. I look good in purple, i got tons of compliments. My uncle gots an interview because he was middle aged and had a bright blue beard with blue hair. my cousin and friend didnt get much reconition wiht the green though. It was alot easier finding them in a crowd though.

are you gonna pre-reg? the at door registration had no line while i waited almost an hour for the pre registration. Complete opposite of last year.......

I'm definetly going next year. Are you sure those are the dates? Cause my dad wants me to find out so we can book a hotel room. WOOHOO!! It's gonna be me and a few friends that are gonna be going. It's gonna be our second con if we go to Big Apple Anime first. Hopefully next year won't be as bad as this year, cause everyone said this year was a dissapointment.

Yeah, I plan on going next year. This time, I'm getting a hotel early and I plan on bringing someone with me to share the costs. Hopefully, it'll be better than this year and they won't cancel any of the anime they plan to show.

Close........ no, actually you just have to know people who know people who know people who know people who know people who have a room....... then when the guy who owns the room wakes you up in the morning and says "who are you?" You just say "I am a friend of _____" and there's your ticket to a room.

Same here Mag dear and you're not the only one who can rarely speak French at all (Only little don't hurt me!). And yes, I'll be (and definately) coming to Otakon 2002 and I'll be the only person from Australia to visit this exciting convention. Hmmm.....travelling to the US alone....its a first for me!

Holy sh*t! Mag and Miko are going to Otakon?! Wow....I live about 25 minutes south of Baltimore...if anyone needs a free place to shack up for the night I got an extra room and a couple of couches. I was thinking of getting our North Carolina members up here(or at least trying to get them to come) so I was going to offer them a place to stay. Free, and my mom is an ab fab cook to boot.

Nah, I don't try to take advantage of people's hospitality. If you are willing to put up with me for 3 days Hiig in your house, I'm cool with that. Just know this though, my favorite spot to read is the bathroom and you will have to let Reika stay in the same place as me. I promise we will be quiet ;)

What're the going rates on the Sheraton and how far away is it from the Convention center? I'm trying to do research on hotels and cheapness while being as close to the Convention Center as possible. :p The otakon website isn't being that helpful as they only have 2 hotels listed. Any would would be muchly appreciated. :D

yikes...most of the stuff next to the con is expensive. All i know of are the hyatt and i think sheraton....though I havent been in baltimore since last Otakon so my memory is a bit fuzzy.

And don't worry....as much as he hates to admit it, TM usually wears pants. Thank god.

As far as hotels, as long as it's not $500 a night, I can deal with the prices. I don't want to have to drive half an hour to get to Otakon from my room, or walk 10 blocks.

Days Inn is pretty cheap..$120 a night for a multi room. I'm probably gonna end up going there with one of my best friends and his girlfriend, so I only gotta pay $40 a night which isn't bad at all. Anyone else plan on staying there? I'm not exactly the most popular person on AB :D but I'd still like to meet some of you guys. :)

(The can read the above statement as: I plan on going out to the Inner Harbor and after Isamu gets smashed, and I don't want a long walk to carry him home.)

Ryoma...the convention center is maybe a quarter mile from the inner harbor. No worries there. Very nice walk down there. Though I've never been to the inner harbor at night to go to any of the night spots.

Sheralton is connected to Otakon by skywalk. Very close. I don't know the rates, some one else is in charge of that. www.otakon.com should be able to give you that info.

I know alot of people are expecting me to show up in the US for this years AX and Otakon. But I'm afraid I'll have to pull back. In other words, I can't make it to both AX AND Otakon this due to my source of finance went down the drain because of my internet, mobile AND home phone bills. All this has contributed to the fact that I have NO money to spend on one return plane ticket and spending money :bawling: So sorry to have your hopes high for me.

I mean, the first theing I heard after my friend and I got out tickets was "can I take your picture?" My friend said I hada posse following me around.
