I suppose... I'm only part way in and I'll just say it may be the situation, their personality or both. If it was personality, I get the feeling that when Yui cries, she doesn't care who's watching. Miaka on the otherhand tries to hold up the happy face to keep the people around her's spirits up.

*thinks* Hmmm.... Actually.... Yui just sulks more. Miaka still cries more than anyone else. Yui only cries a few times, to my recollection... Most of the time she has "dead eyes," as Miaka calls them, where she pretty much is unable to express any real emotion. She is often more depressed than the odangoed heroin, but she doesn't cry nearly as much. Miaka is more open with her feelings, where as Yui just becomes too numb to be able to show them anymore.

Yeah, if Yui was stronger, she wouldn't have let Nakago dissuade her like that, would she?

Yeah, I think Miaka is stronger than Yui. Miaka tried to keep a happy face, tried to help when she could and tried to keep others from being hurt for her sake...and the way she got herself out of Taiitskun's mirror.... She went out and found her seishi herself. Yui let Nakago do all the work, and just laid around the palace listlessly, moping and pining after Tamahome.

In response to the original question, I think Yui doesn't cry so much as mope and sulk (as another board member put it ^_^ ). Miaka does cry, but she cries when she has a reason to.

Yui does cry a lot in the series. For being the smarter one of the two I would've thought that she would also be the more mature but Miaka seemes to have grown up faster than Yui.

Yes, I agree. At the begining of the series, Yui is the cool, mature, intellectual one, while Miaka seems to be incredibly ditzy and immature...but by the end, Miaka grows up, learns from her mistakes, genuinaely helps others, and is truly the better of the two...all Yui can do is selfishly b!tch and moan, and try to hurt people. So yeah, Miaka is far more mature than Yui.

Well, Miaka got messed up by Nakago too...remember when he let her think he raped her? That was horrible, but Miaka didn't have a huge chip on her shoulder because of it.

actually it was nakago that did that to yui making her think she got raped thats why she said she always suffered more than miaka and yui had scars on her wrists showing she tempted to suicide but failed in doin so

Actually, in the second season, Nakago tries to rape Miaka, because if she loses her virginity, she will be unable to summon Suzaku. He knocks her unconscious, and just as he makes his move on her, a red, heavenly aura protects Miaka from him. So he is unable to do the dirty deed. However, he realizes that all he has to do is let her THINK she's been raped, and things will still go his way (ala Yui.) So, for a few episodes, Miaka thinks she's been raped, and sinks into a deep depression...but my point was, Miaka went through almost the exact same thing as Yui, but she didn't become a bitter, vindictive wench with an evil streak because of it, which, IMO, shows that Miaka's character has more strength than Yui's.

Miaka also didn't have Nakago going at her everyday. !! NO. Not like that!! Remember, he kept telling Yui that Miaka deserted her. That she was not friend of hers. Plus, she sorta expected it, too. Though it wasn't exactly what she had in mind.

I agree with Imoutofit( or something ) she does a lot of crying while Miaka does a lot of eating. It's kinda stupid of her to eat even in front of Nakago....hehe....

Yeah I agree wth rei gouki.....having someone like Nakago brainwashing you while you're in a deep emotional trauma can cause a lot of trouble.
