What are valid opinions on someones dislike for Big O? Alot of the time people here do seem to have some valid ideas and stuff on why they dislike Big O, but half the time they just go into a fury of how crappy it is. Here is what I think are some valid reasons to dislike Big O...

-dislike mech designs
-dislike character designs (i.e roger's eyebrows)
-don't like the idea of an unfinished story (too short)
-find that the plot repeats itself, or mechs are unnessecary

If you dislike it for these reasons, you're opinion is valid because you have evidence to back it up, but when it's stated in a opinion like "God, it sucks so much! It has a crappy story and it looks like Batman!!!!!" you lose all validity your opinion had at one point. It's okay to dislike an anime, but not to say that one is crappy. For instance, I do not like Sailor Moon. The plot doesn't appeal to me (mainly because I'm a guy). That doesn't mean it's crap and I hate it. When people knock something that other people enjoy it ruins it for everyone and always end in a flame war. But if someone can say something along the lines of "Have your fun but count me out, it's not my thing." then it works for everyone.

i'm more on the picky side . . . how does the city "magically" repair it self in a night after a big fight with the megaduce???
but for me it would be the concept. common, how can people forget all their memories about surviving on this planet 40 years ago but these people can still survive (with no memories on how to) with artificial air, no sun, artificial food, electricity. how did they learn all this if they forgot about life before 40 years???
it's like asking how can you read english if you don't know how to read???

Here's where you're wrong. Its not 50% of the time that the reasons are invalid, it 99% of the time. Just look at this forum. Got topics like "oh my god this show sucks monkey balls" and crap. Nobody wants to discuss the show's flaws except the half dozen or so of us that frequent the forum. Nope, they watch their DBZ then tune into Big O and say

"Hmm... the animation quality sucks compared to Blue Sub 6 and End of Eva!"

"Hmm... Roger Smith wears a black suit, I guess that means he's a Batman clone even though he acts nothing like Batman. Nope, it doesn't matter that his look was merely a tribute to american animation, not an excuse to clone batman"

"The story's too confusing and I don't get it so... um... IT SUCKS! DBZ IS UBBER COOL AND MONDO RADICAL! YEAH!"

"Why'd dey spend all dat time focosing on Dustin and Dorthy? Why don't we get more Big Oh-no fiets? Those r totally radical!"

Do I need to go on? Its pointless anyway, nobody wants to discuss the show in an intelligent manner.

Melfina: Eva, DBZ, all share the same problem of Big O with repairs occuring magically. Like when Leliel sucked up all the buildings in the city yet they magically appeared again in the next episode.

As for the 40 years thing, thats one of the thing we like so much about it. The overall atmosphere of the show and the mysteries in it.

Wow this is probably the most thought provoking thread I've ever seen at this message board.

I mean for most of the reasons that people hate it, those are the exact reasons that I think the series is terrific. Of course as a film buff, I like anime series that most people don't.

Well like a lot of things...if it's different a good amount of people will avoid it and/or bash it even if they have no good reason to. This applies to many other places besides anime too.
