El Hazard question

Just a simple question,in wich order should these be watched:
El Hazard The Magnificent World
El Hazard The Wanderers
El Hazard the Alternative World

1. Magnificent World (OAVs, the beginning)
2. OAV 2 (included in the dvd boxed set) (continuation of OAVs, but mostly another completely different adventure)
3. Alternative World (continuation of OAV 2, but it's more like "Other Adventures of El-Hazard Characters")
4. Wanderers (Starts everything from scratch, it's like an alternate universe, but it's darn good!)

first watch the magnifecent world (the first ova), then magnifecent world 2 (ova 2), and then alternative world. and the wanderers you can see last since it re-tells the story in a different way


and also, ova 2 is not a continuation of ova 1, ova 2 just tells what took place when the characters were still in el-hazard trying to get back to earth. and same goes for alternative world which im watching now.

Wait... how can you say that OAV 2 isn't a continuation of OAV 1 and similar The Alternate World isn't a continuation of OAV 2.

I mean from a time continum perspective OAV 2 seems to take place very soon after OAV 1 ends and similarly The Alternate World picks up right after Fujisawa's wedding (which closes out OAV 2). I mean maybe its not the same integrated and continued plot line of the Tenchi OAV's but, its still on the same timeline and hence a continuation...right..

Anyhoo, I totally agree with the watching order suggested. I mean I watched the Alternate World first because it came out on DVD first and I was sort of lost.

Looking forward to the wanders though. People have talked it up a bit on the boards.... got me excited.

no, you misunderstood me, ova 2 IS NOT a continuation of ova 1, ova 1 ends when makoto finally got back to earth to meet ifurita (which was beautiful btw). ova 2 takes place right after ifurita jumped in the eye of god (moments before the ending of ova 1).
ova 2 and the alternative world tells what happened when makoto was trying to find a way back to earth to see ifurita again (which was the ending the ova 1).

so, if what you're saying is true:

then makoto and the others should have already been on earth

That said, do you have any insights as to how Makoto eventually gets back to earth? I mean, personally, I thought it was sort of odd how the same person who created Tenchi sort of tells you up front who the main male protagonist is going to end up with.

That said, I also think its a little odd that the Wanderers (from what I hear) isn't consistent with the Makoto-Ifurita riding off into the sunset theme.

I'd be interested to hear any enlightened thoughts on the matter....

Well, I am currentely reading alternate worlds manga... Pretty good... I don't know anything about the series though :heh:

im not sure, i havent finished watching the alternative world yet ( im on the 7th night), and from what ive read from reviews, makoto and princess rune have a passion for each other in the wanderers, but what do i know? i havent seen it, guess i have to wait for it to come on dvd.

Okay that said does anyone know if El Hazard is going to be continued because at the end of The Alternate World, Makoto does not find a way back to Ifurita (OAV Ifurita). So I guess I'm sort of wondering what happens and also how the love triangle plays out with Shayla Shayla and Nanami.

I haven't heard any rumors about another series/OAV.. The creator of El Hazard (i forget his name :heh: ) is currently working on Tenchi OAV 3 so if he does make another series, it won't be for a while :(

As for the ending, you find out at the end of the first OAV that Matoko does find a way back, and its pretty obvious that he's still in love with Ifurita, so I don't think anything would happen with Nanami or Shayla-Shayla. But I do agree that it would be nice to see how it happens.

eventually they're gonna continue it someway somehow, the creator(forgot his name also) like to 'not finish' his works, he also didnt finish dual! but im sure theres gonna be more, but it might be years though.

i just finished watching the AW, and im pretty sure they're gonna make more (but will take some time of course)

i dont know it its just me, but in the end of ova 1, when makoto finally got back to the earth, he kinda looked older...

and my theory on how he got back to earth, i think that ifurita's power staff was made by the ancients and is somehow related to the eye of god, so something from the eye of god might have activated the power of the staff and makoto can control it. but what do i know, thats just my theory.
