I went by the Advfilms web site which btw has a new design and layout and came across this page with the following stuff in it.. alot of it has been mentioned in the past posts although i seem to have lost track of what has been said
Quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As NEON GENESIS EVANGELION is literally awash with both verbal and visual religious references and analogies, it would be difficult to dispute that there must be some significance to all the religious and mystical subtext.
For example, the names of the three super-computers that actually control all aspects of human life within Tokyo-3 are biblical in origin: Melchior, Balthazar and Casper, collectively known as the three Magi, while the code name for NERV's hidden base in the underground Geo Front is Central Dogma.
The mysterious NERV logo that is constantly emblazoned across the screen though out the series contains the phrase "Gods In His Heaven.
All's Right With The World," a quote from Browning, while a Systema Sephiroticum, drawn by the German priest Athanasius Kircher in 1653, appears on the ceiling of NERV head Gendo Ikari's enormous office.
Multiple references are made to the Kabbalah, and both a mystical Tree of Life and a Jacob's Ladder are displayed during the opening credits sequence.
The Seven Eyes of God appear, quite literally, during a sequence in which an object referred to as the Spear of Longinus (the "Spear of Destiny", which pierced the side of Jesus during the crucifixion) is shown piercing the side of the Angel Lillith, which has been bound to a crucifix-like support.
The Second Impact, which annihilates half of the Earth's population fifteen years prior to the actual start of the series, accomplishes the majority of its damage via a flood second only to Noah's, and even the cataclysmic explosions that occur when Eva Unit One first goes into combat against an Angel are undeniably cross-like. And then there are the Angel's themselves…
"Gods In His Heaven. All's Right With The World."
Although originally represented as alien beings of unknown origin, and though never completely explained to date, it becomes increasingly obvious that the Angels are not simply ruthless invaders, but are, in fact, working according to some kind of plan that is meant to somehow steer the human race.
Despite their apparently limitless power, the Angels never attack in sufficient numbers to overwhelm NERV, and the defeat of each Angel, in turn, always requires some new advancement in the evolution of the relationship between the Evas and their young pilots. This becomes a very viable possibility when one considers that, although the creators of EVANGELION have specified that the name Angels be used for these creatures in the English language version, the original Japanese term is more properly translated as Emissary or Apostle.
Perhaps the greatest evidence that the Angels are, in fact, working to some divine plan, is the revelation that the so-called Second Impact, initially explained by both military and scientific authorities alike as the result of an asteroid strike on Antarctica, was actually the result of man's first contact with an Angel, and that it was the Second Impact itself that produced the only human beings capable of controlling an Evangelion.
Are we to assume the fact that the children of the Marduk Report, all born nine months after the cataclysm, are merely some form of cosmic accident? Or, rather, as many have surmised, are we actually being shown the mechanism through which the human race will be evolved to the next level of being?
The continued evolution of the human species, incidentally, is also being attempted by the human inhabitants of the Eva Universe. Referred to as the Human Instrumentality Project, a name that, again, the creators have specified for use in the English language version although a more literal translation might render the original Japanese name as the Human Completion or Enhancement Project, this scientific crusade has the most religious of foundations.
With the stated goal of changing Mankind from an "incomplete herd" to a "complete one", the HIP is apparently focused around the extraction of DNA from the embryotic remains of Adam, a being found in Antarctica just prior to Second Impact.
Was Adam in fact an Angel, or is he, as NERV head Gendo Ikari states in episode eight, the first human?
And given that Gendo is apparently in full control of both the Evangelion Project and the Human Instrumentality Project, exactly how far do their respective goals overlap? Has Gendo gone so far as to sacrifice his own son Shinji, the Third Child and the pilot of Eva Unit One, on the altar of a new technology in order to create a new race of Man?
One of the principle foundations for an examination of this extension of the story line can be found in EVANGELION's depiction of living beings as containers for a separate intelligence that can be transferred from vessel to vessel. This is shown not only in the character of Rei, who is demonstrated to be a clone with conflicting sets of memories in latter episodes, but also in the giant Evangelions themselves which, although robot-like in appearance, are actually flesh and blood creations that house a human "pilot" within a womb-like interior filled with a fluid substance that allows the interior being to control the external shell.
The idea that the Evas themselves are merely bodies to be worn and discarded is evidenced by the labyrinth-like Eva graveyard glimpsed later in the series.
However, there is also ample evidence of the fact that an Eva can exist as an independent entity, as is demonstrated by the terrifying rogue Eva sequence in episode 18. The innate contradictions set up by these two conflicting points of view serve only to amplify the image of the Eva's creator as a genuine Frankenstein, literally stealing the bodies of the not yet dead as a means re-creating the human race.
And yet, at the same time, is EVANGELION not also saying that perhaps it is our attachment to our human shells that holds us back from the next step towards our ultimate future?
For if indeed the Angels are truly the emissaries of God, and if their mission is to truly help us somehow advance, either physically or meta-physically, then might they not have to destroy that which we cling to most, our physical beings, if that is what prevents us from becoming closer to God?
It should be noted that, to date, EVA's creators have remained fairly quiet on the subject of the mystical and religious implications of this extraordinary series. However, for those who doubt that there is a message buried beneath the surface veneer, there is one last thing that we should mention.
Although NEON GENSIS EVANGELION is the title the original Japanese creators have specified for the English Language version, the original Japanese title is SHINSEIKI EVANGELION, created from the Japanese words "shin" (new) and "seiki" (century) and the Greek word for Gospel, "evangel', from which the word evangelist is also derived.
Thus, a literal translation would read "The Gospel of the New Century"… and with a new millennium waiting just around the corner, perhaps we will find that the speculations and fantasies of the creators of NEON GENESIS EVANGELION are not as strange or as far-fetched as we would like to believe.

If you find the Kabbalah one it has links to the other two, (maybe vice versa), but the K one is pretty underground and I only found it from another Eva freaks link. Instead of the multitude of Eva sites with the all too common:
intro, story, chara, pics etc it goes straight into the Kabbalistic influences in the series, with other points thrown in. It is quality.
I'm such an Eva freak and I liked it so much i printed it all out!!! About 35 pages... send me to environmental court please...Or send me to Eva crazy freak court/asylum.
Dunno about the mailing list
While on the subject of sites has anyone read the essay Anno's Tweaky Revenge?

hehe, Access probably spends hours every day on this board just like me (and on some other ezboards )
Board Tip:
On the main board page, do you see a 'Mark All Read' text link ?
Well on every forum section such as Dragonball, Pokemon, Eva Discussion forums they have that same link at the top and also on each first page of a thread.
What you do after reading a thread is hit that link. So everytime you come back to the forum if there's a folder box on the left of a forum you know there's new messages... no folder box means no new messages.
You can also check the email notification of reply as well. New feature is see at the bottom right of a thread there's a subscribe to thread link ...
That's what i do and that's what all members should do

Actually EVA2000 I think 3f was refering to how I keep up with printing the messages when new ones keep appearing. Well most threads when finished get put to rest, so then I can print them out. But in the case for long threads, eg Apposels, It is Upon Us.... etc. I print out what is their and then when their is enough messages to fill up another page I print again, and staple it to the back of it. All messages go into a folder dedicated to either the Board or a topic. SO I have references all around. (Most of the time printouts end up all over the floor though).

No that aint it. You'll know it when you see it. It is on the importance of Kabbalah in Eva and more on how it relates.
Not a pretty site, but it is recommended reading for any Eva sicko.
Ath seems to know a lot about the K. Have you seen the site? Since I know little about the K and had never heard of it B4 Eva it is hard for me to be critical of the info presented.
I havn't yet seen Shinji's FAQ site so I'll check it. I like the way Gend's FAQ's is written in the 1st person as though he really is the G and he says stuff like 'my wussy son Shinji' a nice touch.

Thanks the Nondescript for the update! It's great stuff. It seems to me that the characters really were modelled after the Sephira.
ATh: Now I have a question for you. According to the summary table on the said site, each Sephira has characteristics, ie. vice, virtue, illusion, obligation, command, etc. What are the nature of these characteristics, where do they come from and who decided on them? Is it something that's been designated in the Kabbalah, and been passed down through the generations? Thanks for any tips.

Your question is easy to answer, but also a bit tricky as well.
Ok
The main source for these Comes from the
Yetziratic Text
ie.
Kether
"The First Path is called the Admirable or Hidden Intellegence because it is the Light giving the power of comprehension of the First Principle, which hath no begining. And it is the Primal Glory, because no created being can attain to its essance."
Most of the virtues given in that site come from various sources, but the main source that they would have come from may have been
The Kabbalah Unveiled
translated by S.L. Mathers in 1887.
(personally i do not understand this book at all)
Though Chokmah is often thought not to have a vice (this is the first i've ever heard of it) and both Malkuth and Yesod do have Visions.
But one thing for certain is that Colin Low was the man who curculated that as it is there (it says so in a link).
Who has given these attributions?
Well have a look at Aleister Crowley's 777
which is more or less just pages of tables giving descriptions of what is associated with each of the 32 Paths.
However most days no matter what it is, it will have some sort of Hermetic influence about it, By Hermetic i am more refering to the Golden Dawn.
As i was writing in the other post (the essy on Man) it is impossible to come up with a complete account of the correspondances.
But meditation will often reveal insight into where something corresponds on the Tree, and if you believe in other Orders of Intellegence, The Masters often give insight as well.
So to sum up, There are Traditional correspondances which have been passed down over time, but due to the very nature of the Glyph of Life, new meanings are found all the time,
and everyone has their own perspective which will alter the relationships of the correspondances, but never alter the reality of the Tree.
If you want my little list of good books
A Practical Guide to Qabalisitic Symbolism by Gareth Knight
777 by Aleister Crowley
most books by Isreal Regardie are easy to read
most books by Dion Fortune begin easily enough but get technical (still very good)
If you want more info post here or email me.

Thanks Nondescript, the first hit under a search for "Gendo Ikari's Ultimate eva" turned this up. Shinji's FAQ from this site is really hillarious, definitely worth a visit.
Is this the link to the site about the Kabbalah?
I haven't seen Anno's essy you talk about.
Access, how do you keep up with the incoming new posts on this board? =P

hehe, Access probably spends hours every day on this board just like me (and on some other ezboards )

I like the way Gend's FAQ's is written in the 1st person as though he really is the G and he says stuff like 'my wussy son Shinji' a nice touch.

my own site im sort of developing will have a strong emphasis towards this line of thought, and i would hate to just rehash the same stuff (but i might also get a few ideas. btw does any body want to develop a visual outlay for my page, i think i really suck at it)

I found the website check it out: http://www.dgs.monash.edu.au/~jw...chars.html
Like I said I printed the thing out and the address was of course on the pages..DUH!!
When I 1st read this I couldn't stop and I bet it'll be the same for Access and some of you others.
The author gets into the focus of the series: the characters, and gets into other themes.

Exxellent,
thanks for that, and it is a good site, though already my interpretation is different so it won't just be repeating or ripping other ideas (fuoo)
But it will certainly be an inspiration.

The Nondescript and all: Did you know that the author of the Analysis of Characters... also has written an analysis of the individual episodes? Just like the character analyses, this is also a very well written, quality page packed full of info. If you like the Kabbalah page, you'll love this one.
The link is here.
ATh: Thank you for your answer, I don't completely follow yet, but hopefully it'll make more sense after I give it more thought and read up a bit on the subject.
