i havent seen the show yet, but i just went to the official website, and how they changed the character names is just unbelievable! i can see it now, it will suffer the fate of cardcaptors. you can check it for yourself if you havent already, at http://www.yugiohkingofgames.com/

EDIT: just in case you misunderstood this post like the one below this, im refering to yu-gi-oh suffering the same fate as cardcaptors.

To quote Brandon Lee from the Crow for what the censors did to our dear Sakura-Chan:

"They died a year ago when they laid their hands on her, they just didn't know it yet."

Jounouchi Katsuya is now "Joey Wheeler"
Honda Hiroto is now "Tristan Taylor"
Mazaki Anzu is now "Téa Gardner"
Kujaku Mai is now "Mai Valentine"

what the f.uck is this??? joey wheeler? tea gardner? what kind of names are those?

WHAT
THE
HELL?!?!?!?:jdrop:
More like the next Pokemon. I can just see it...kids in Ameirca playing the card game...parents frantically buying videos for Christmas...oh well at least it's another anime seeing the light of the world. That's something to be happy about. :D

True... but if ALL the anime that mainstream society sees are butchered up garbage, I would be as happy as a cancer patient.

I've never seen yu-gi-oh. What is the (Japanese version) storyline like? Is it more like Digimon, Pokemon, or Card Captor, or none of the above? Gimme a summary.

Hmm. Interesting. Well, I can accept Jounouchi becoming Joey since the beginning of Jounouchi is kinda like Joe (I said kinda), and at keast they kept Mai as Mai, but where they got the other names, who knows?

They start killing characters the second they change their names.

I was lucky enough to see some of the original CCS episodes, not the america dub shown on kids wb. i think whenever a good anime is taken and dubbed to be shown on american tv its ALWAYS screwed up. why do they do this to good anime ?:bawling: *runs off crying*

I always believed that the disaster that befell CCS (known as Card Captors) must not be forgotten - otherwise we doomed to repeat the tragedy.

But now, it seems we ARE doomed to face a constant stream of bad anime translations.
I haven't seen Yugioh but, judging from what I've seen in that link, I have to ask: WHY?!
Geez, didn't anime translators learn their lesson the first time around with the abomination that was Card CRAPtors?!?! :redhot:

But just wait, those Yugioh will face the bane of every translator: A Backlash From Annoyed Otaku!

GOD, I know what you all mean:mad: The first time I heard their new names, I went static.....I thought Anzu was pronounced "tee" like the drink, then I really got mad....:mad2: :redhot: :kaioken: :ssj: and Joey Wheeler...I cannot STAND that name....Listen you all, this is a truely good anime if you see the subtitled on on TV Tokyo, its not one of those "Pokemon" things were all they do is travel around...Have you ever noticed that all these American dub companies dub anime that have like a series of monsters (Digimon, Pokemon, Medabots, CardCaptors, you get the idea) that really burns me up....

My only experience with Yu-gi-oh is what I have seen on UK TV, and I must admit my reaction was "Wow, what a piece of crap!" Of course this is the dubbed American version, so I can't comment on the proper one.

I've seen a number of Carcaptors eps on TV. I heard and read so much about CCS that I now have the original manga (I got all 12 volumes from an otaku in Japan :D ) and I will very soon be taking the plunge and buying the whole CCS boxed set of DVDs. I'm sure it will be worth it, I just have to wait until next payday.

On the subject of anime being butchered when it is translated: many years ago, I found a VHS called "Warriors of the Wind". I knew enough about anime to recognise it as Nausicaa, so I bought it and watched it with my friends. We all agreed that the visuals were brilliant, the story was confusing, and whoever wrote the script should be taken out and shot.

Just recently I bought the Studio Ghibli boxed set and was finally able to watch Nausicaa the way it was meant to be - in Japanese with subtitles. Only now do I realise what utter butchery was performed to make WotW. That anime wasn't edited, it was raped.

Why why why do people have to do this? What's wrong with just adding subtitles, then leaving it alone? No wonder fansubs are so popular!

not all of dubbed anime on tv is edited badly, example: Inu Yasha. in addition, bebop, gundam wing, yu yu hakusho, pilot candidate-all ran barely unedited. Cardcaptors is a DISGRACE to anime on tv. no one should give KidsWB! any anime. all anime on tv should be on CN! (or any other channel besides WB)

anyway, there is hope, the Yu Gi Oh manga is running on Shonen Jump.
