I don't know if this has come up before but here it gose:
Are there any "LIONS" in Neon Genesis Evangelion? Why??? I here you ask, well "NEON" and "GENESIS" both have meanings, while "EVANGELION" dose not...

In "EVANGELION", The Word contains:
"EVA" for the Eva's
"ANGEL" for the Angles
"LION" for the ???????

If I'm putting too much into this I would like to know, but if anyone can explain the "LION" I'd be very grateful.

uh... evangelion is just an extention of the word "evangelical". "evangelist church" members could be refered to as "evangelions" i suppose (!?)
but its true evangelion is not a recognised word as far as i know.

'Evangelion' is a real word, but it's hard to find in any common dictionary. Try going to the library and using one of their fat 50-year old dictionaries to look it up. The definition is a bit circular, though.

Evangelion doesn't stand for the words eva, angel and lion, but it's one word that means the evangelic action or...mmm to promote (usually used by Christian) the arrival Kingdom of Heaven, and told the people to leave their sins.

The Eva movies may have some things that alike with the word evangelion, like...the angels came here to earth to done their duty by God's name so the God's plan will work (and that is the arrival of the Kingdom of heaven),they're big, they bring the fear to human... that means that human should kneel down by the God's messenger (And that means that human also have to kneel down by the God itself).
If they have mouth to talk, maybe they would say.
"Leave all your Phisycal strength, kneel down, commit your sins and leave them ! Get ready to be one in the Kingdom to come" (the last sentence menas DEATH)

Well the last paragraph is just my own words, and I think they would be acceptable, don't they ?

To keep this short and sweet, I do belive Evangelion is a Greek word that means "Gospel" or "Message from God" in laymans terms.

Hey...This thing was swing in my head...
Is there any connection between Eva-series-concept with the missionaires concept, you know Gospel, Glory and Gold ?

It's just like this :
The angels are doing the Gospel for His Glory by fighting human.
But humans are fighting for their Gold(richness)by making Glory(defeating the angels and broken the God's will)

How's that ?

I think EVANGELION... is from the word EVANGEL.... which means the preacher of god or what ever.... EVA... at the start was probably where the word came from, or was just pure chance. The word Angel... I think was definely pure chance, or also was where the word also was derived from.

I have never heard the word EVANGELION as a whole... I must look this up, thanks for bringing it to the boards attetion that the word as a whole may have roots.

Wolfpac IS a funny guy

Anyways, I think it comes from Evangel, already translated before. Also, there's a kind of cool connection to Eve (Eva-eve), which was made from a part of Adam; Eva was copied partially from Adam, and made into a different image (like man and woman).

The reason that none of you have heard the word "Evangelion" before is because is is an old Greek word. The Pope for example wrote Evangelion Velo which means "Gospel of Life". It's an old word that you'd be hard pressed to find but what hard core Eva fan wouldn't want to go to the trouble of finding it?

I have looked at my big Eva poster on my wall and seen the same thing as Wolfpac. Lion doesn’t mean anything it’s just part of the word. How many people have Eva posters on their wall?

Unfortunately my house has this artistic look to it so hanging posters would clash with the overall nice model look. I'd have to get one framed, hey! now that's an Idea!

 How much is Tamachan paying you for this little advertisement? :D

I agree, Tamarket is excellent. They have full size wall scrolls for 50% less than they are selling for here in Adelaide.
