Chronicles of the Heroic knight picks up after the first part of the Lodoss War?

Okay, I've seen all but the 2 and 3 tape in The Record of the Lodoss War. I know how it ends, and that Parn gets knighted. The Chronicles of the Heroic Knight picks up 5 (I think) years later. How come Parn doesn't seem to recognize the two mercinaries (one's a red head and one's the bezerker (Orvil, I think)? They met each other in The Record of the Lodoss war and stuff, so why are they all acting like they don'e know each other? Everyone was acting like it was a big shock when they found out that Orivil was a bizerker warrior. Any answers??

It's all because the original videos were OAVs. The TV series was set in the same time period and with some of the same characters, but it was made into a completely new series, which is why when they mention how Bard was killed by Kashue is not what really happened in the OAV tapes.

The TV series picks up around the 6-7 th episode of the OVA and acts like the other episodes of the OVA didnt exist. Reason was when they were making it the books werent done for the second half of the OVA and the anime team had to make it up the rest of it.

Yep, Chronicles of the Heroic Knight is how the Novels really were. There were 7 novels, but only 2 or 3 were finished by the time they made the OVA, so after episode 8, they had to make up an ending.

The TV series picks up 5 years after Novel 1, and about 3 years after Novel 2. (Novel 2 is never animated, but a manga exists). Parn doesn't know Orson and Shiris because that was just something the creators threw in to spice things up in the OVA. Orson and Shiris were never in the first novel (Episodes 1-8 of the OVA are Novel 1). Also, the thing about how Kashue killed Beld was how it was in the books. Ryo Mizuno changed it in the OVA because he said he wanted the series to have a few things of its own so that it was more than just an exact copy of his novel.

Anyways, the TV series is how the novels were. Episodes 1-8 of TV series are Novels 3 and 4 (1-4 = Novel 3, 5-8 = Novel 4) and episodes 9-27 = Novel 6 and 7 (Novel 5 was never animated. Episodes 9-18 = Novel 6, Episodes 19-27 = Novel 7)
