This is the complaint that is mentioned in Animerica and among some fans I have heard. Do you guys think that someone who is considering biuying this series should take this into consideration?

IMO, only if you like mysteries and are patient.

That's a good point. A lot of people have to have series that have everything explained to them outright. Which is too bad because series with depth of plot are often much more rwarding on many levels than those that aren't.

That's why I like such anime as Gasaraki and Perfect Blue, because they make you really think.

Series that make you think are always good!

From what I hear the series really gets going after about the 8th or 9th episode. I have to admit, the first 4 episodes are somewhat dull, but I'm still willing to give it a try.

Perfect Blue, hm? well theres an nother item to my must have list.

i have vol's 1-4 so far, and for the first two i had to mostly live off the forshadowing, but its worth it, peaces start falling in to place on disk 3 and 4.

it really starts building up, but if you're not one for anything w/out Super D or face plants... avoid it so you cant say it sucks. i know too many ppl like that, they dare calling them selves Otaku and yet shun the truly greatest half of anime. SHAME!

When you are trying to convence anyone to buy Gasaraki or buy it for someone else, think of what they like and what they would want.

Gasaraki is not THAT confusing, its just not like most anime, there is mystery involved in the plot, when the story begins you arnt told anything at all, your like uhhh, I bought this video because i saw some mechs on the front, what the hell is this guy dancing for? Once I finished the first DVD I was like "I LOVE THIS SERIES!". Not only did it have mecha in it, but it had a interesting storyline and an adult-like intreg to it. This series is great for anyone who just isnt a basic action junky (IE: really loves the DBZ series, which btw has a weak storyline and mind-numbing action scenes which after the first series only gets worse) Most people who love evangelion would love this series also, but unlike the evangelion series which chops alot of their character development and deep meaning away for action scenes, this one does not. In the end you pretty much get the basic idea.

You have to understand that the designers who wrote this are famous, its a good series. Ryosuke Takahashi who did the Votoms series was director, Yutaka Izubuchi who did Patlabor and Mobile Suit Gundam was Mechanical Designer and Assistant Director was Goro Taniguchi, now this is Goro's first attempt as Assistant Director and I feel it really made him shine, he was the main reason why this movie wasnt just another evangelion, he was the guy who wanted CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT and made sure the Ryosuke and Yutaka didnt get carried away in the action scenes and mechicanical technology.

So in conclusion: If your friend or you liked Evangelion and/or something like Perfect Blue or even Ghost in the Shell id say buy the first DVD and seriously watch it. If you by the end you like what you see, then you would probably have fun watching the rest.

I agree with the previous posts. Gasaraki is like a big juicy steak dinner that starts off with a minimal but delicious appetizer and ramps up to the main course after a few servings. It's a serious anime with a lot of characters to keep track of and a lot of backstory to keep in mind at all times. So far, the effort to watch it has paid off.

There are so many anime available today that rely on a compex plot (ie Gasaraki, Eva, Lain.....). Thus, it must be pretty easy to sell ideas.

Example scenario:
Writer walks into producers studio with idea for a series - in the form of a synopsis. Producer takes synopsis and reads it. Eventually.....
Producer: This all seems rather complex. Do you, as the guy how came up with this have any as to what's going on here?
Writer: Errrr......No?
Producer: Great! I love it!
Producer hands Writer huge wad of cash
