What does everyone think of the mecha desigs in this show?
Im like most people I absolutely love the designs in Evangelion, Robotech and Gundam series, however, until this series came out my favorite was always Robotech, the reason why is that their mecha were not invincible, the strength of the valkerie were that they were very menuverable and their weapons were state of the art, unlike gundam where the guy basically shoots into an area of 5 and they all die. When Gasaraki came out their mecha definatly took the cake, just look at the realism here, when the guy enters the cockpit he slides his feet and locks them into place and menvuers his body into the cockpit, these mechs are hardly invencible and they dont have this super advantage over other technology in the world of the series, they have faults just like other stuff, in one scene I beleive in the second DVD the mechs are getting pounded by normal cannon vehicals. Just the way mechs are handled in this movie just excites me, its very realistic.

Yeah, the mecha in Gasaraki certainly contain a high degree of realism.
Why, the feet are drawn in a way that they are carrying an enormous amount of weight upon them - and this results in necessary repairs - and when the TA's got stuck in sandstrom, they ran the risk of the sand ruining the mechanics of the TA's joints.
Seeing mecha like this is indeed certainly refreshing when they are portrayed as being anything but indestructable.

And may I add, that the sheer mechanical bulk of the Gasaraki TA's also made an interesting, and refreshing, change from seeing countless mecha of sleek, lightweight and highly maneovourable design (like that of Vandread).
The Gasaraki TA's are true machines of war. They look colossal, ugly, dirty and quite capable of taking whatever's thrown at them.
Full marks go to the makers for the realistic approach!
