***SPOILERS***
after fighiting ashitare, do you think that if Nuriko hadn't moved that rock he woulve survived? i think so...but..
dammit Nuriko, why?!?!?! :bawling:
(still spoilers)
*pondering* Hmm... you do have a point. I think, however, that Nuriko knew he didn't have much time and Mitsukake was simply too far away.
There's not a question in my mind that Nuriko would have had more time alive if he hadn't moved the rock. The adrenaline running in his bloodstream after the battle and after the use of sheer determination to move that boulder would have greatly increased his heart rate, causing him to bleed faster. However, adrenaline has a habit of overcoming many physical limitations as well, so the time difference was not necessarily that great.
Also, even if Nuriko would have survived had he not moved the rock, it would have taken precious time to wait for Mitsukake and the others, and it would have taken even more time for Mitsukake to heal Nuriko. Because Ashitare was there, Nuriko had to assume that the rest of the Seiryuu Seishi knew where the shinzahou was and were on their way. It's standard battle tactics--assume the worst, then act on that assumption. So, working off that, Nuriko had to get that rock out of the way as soon as possible so the rest of the Suzaku Seishi could get in, get the shinzahou, and get out before the Seiryuu Seishi could get there. Nuriko chose the noble path, sacrificing his life for the lives of his friends. It was one of the most touching things he could have done.

In a factual sense....I can actually see Nuriko surviving the battle with Ashitare.
If Nuri-kun hadn't moved the rock, then the blood flow would have toned down a bitte. Also, as with the wound, Nuri-kun would have felt physically tired and somewhat numb from the pain, but showing that he still had the strength to lift the boulder, it depicts that although physically worn, the mental power had not ceased its flow. Afterward, I believe that Nuri thought that he had given his greatest gift and perhaps felt peace at mind after his original mission was over, thus more easily succumbing to the sleep of eternity.
Whatever the reason for the reason for Nuri-kun's sacrifice, the nobility and honor in his deed stands out like a black feather in a pile of white, so I guess that's why dearest Nuri's death scene is often regarded as one of the best scenes in FY.

most definately...it was hands down the saddest scene in fushigi yuugi..
although the scene with chiriko and hotohori were pretty sad as well, nothing compaired to Nuriko's death...

i think Nuriko will survive if he hadn't move the boulder... but maybe he wanted to let Tamahome and Miaka be together?? or maybe he thought he was born to move that boulder, and he has to do it even if it costs his life?

I think Nuriko would have dead either way. First off, not only was he bleeding all over the place, but he was freezing too. His body temperature was dropping dramatically. So either way, he would have died by...bleeding to death, or froze to death. Aside for all that though, yes, it was a very sad scene, but i think the saddest scene was when Tamahome's family was killed, the first time i actually cried to a cartoon. That scene was VERY emotional.:bawling:
WAAAAA! NURIKO!!!!!! :bawling:
It's stupid Nakago's fault! Ashitare was only following his orders, like any loyal animal/pet would do! And how did Nakago reward him? By killing him! I HATE NAKAGO!
But, yeah, he probably would have died either way. He was already pretty badly hurt.
