The Howmei Question

Alright.

Who thinks that it's Ms. Howmei and who thinks it's Mr. Howmei.

I've only seen the dvd series released by ADV w/ both dubbed and subtitled version. I'm pretty sure it's Miss Howmei, but someone in another forum desagreed with me.

Could some of you more enlightened Nadesico fans tell if I'm right or wrong?:confused:

At first I really wasn't sure. The voice leads one to believe that she might be an afeminant man. The thing you have to realize is that that is an English addition. The Japanese voice actress was undeniably a woman when you listen to the Japanese version. Perhaps, the voice coordinator was trying to pass on a sense of her maturity as compared to the young girlish voices of the rest of the cast.

This just goes to show you how insecure I am. One person tells me that she's a man, and all of a sudden I have to get a thread started just to prove I'm right. I'm so self-centered.;)

They should have made her an afeminate-man. That would be more intresting and show that in the future gay people are dealt with better on Battleships:lol:

But how could Nadesico deal with issues like that:rolleyes: Next thing y'know Megumi will get pregnant and Akito has a gay love affair with Admiral Munetake:D

More likely with Akatski (Pilot/Chairman of Nergal, I can't spell these names). Think back to the end of the episode with all the tanks. Well in the dubbed version there is a reference to some creative comic creation going on.:lol:

The dubb rocks anyway! And since when was Akatski chairman of Nergal? i knew he was loyal to them..but chairman? The last i saw the chairman was a dark mysterious man with blode hair. Would you mind explaining this one to me richjd?

Bit of a spoiler there, since that doesn't come to light until the last DVD. But he always was the chairman during the Nadesico timeline. IIRC, you don't see his face at all in that early episode since he's back-lit, but you should definitely recognize the voice once he appears as an Aesti pilot later on. Of course, in hindsight you can probably think of several situations where it's obvious, like when you learn that Erina is the secretary for the head of Nergal, and she seems to interact with him about some things that might not really concern a fighter pilot; his conversations with the wacky admiral, and, ummm, other stuff.


Same thing with Ines and {censored}, since you get a flashed silhouette of her in the desert when she's originally telling her story, and it looks vaguely familiar.

Wait a minute! Akatski's voice sounded nothing like the Chairman's. Plus how come when Akatski first came onboard the Nadesico You saw the Chairman on the Monitor at a meeting back on Earth! If he was onboard The Nadesico how could he be on Earth as well? Plus.....i don't know it just does'nt add up.:D

If you look at the episode where he is hidden in the shadows of his office speaking to Arena, you can definitely see the resemblence.
