this anime is so awesome! i was just wondering if there are more than 6 episodes, or if the manga is longer than the oav's.
The manga is way longer than the actual OVA .... and also way better. *nods*

Actually, the manga isn't even finished in Japan. It's quite good (extremely violent and funny), but it's dragging on right now with the "Angels" saga.
Love the spells there. MEGADEATH!!!

Been addicted to DS and all his wacky ways since I was a wee baby of eleven...and in all that time, I've never heard of a movie. It'd be insane to make one because the manga STILL isn't finished (it's as old as me~!)...insane like making an X movie.
There are currently, yes, 22 Full-Japanese manga volumes released in Japan. You can buy them from stores online totally legitmately, but for about double their Japanese price. (Still, it's cheaper than you'd find an American graphic novel. :: nod:: ) So far, two volumes have been translated and released by VIZ, and they are also running them monthly in issue format if you absolutely can't wait for the next compilation. (I personally won't be buying it until volume twelve or so...that's when Hagiwara stopped using any kanji I recognized and I got completely lost...Dragon Warrior? Huh? Wings? Whazza? Larz...and then the Angels. Oh GACKT. The Angels.)
Then six episode OVA covers...about eight of the twenty-two volumes. Yes. Only eight. And it cuts out a lot of the funniest moments, but still tenaciously holds on to the disgusting and crude nature of Dark Schneider that charms everyone he meets.
...and yeah. The whole series probably started while Hagiwara and his buddies were -----drunk, listening to 80's Heavy Metal, and playing Dungeons and Dragons...(if D&D was around in '86-'87...I wouldn't know. Not my forte.)
Yeah I saw the OVAs back in the early 90's and it was pretty cool which is why I'm buying the Viz mangas now just to finally see what happens after the OVA. I thought the OVA was pretty well done with (then) really excellent artwork which is still pretty okay by todays standards.
In the US, the mangas are currently up to issue 13 (when DS is fighting Arshes Nei) and are brought out 4 parts per issue, per month (thank god!!) making it about 60 pages or so and also quite expensive. I am finding the manga slightly odd though in that it's alot more sleazy  than what I expected and the story more dragged out compared to what I was used to seeing (seen the OVAs lots of times).
Oh and D&D has been around since the mid/late 70's and the creators for that were probably on something too whilst inspired by Lord of the Rings.

I don't think so it's possible but highly unlikely since the manga is past its popularity peak I think.
