 What a coicidence. I was just about to start a thread asking about this particular anime movie and I saw this thread, hehe. My question: Would you guys recommend this movie? Was it good? I just bought the special edition DVD and I haven't opened it yet. I wanted to ask for your opinions first to see if you'd recommend it or not. If it wasn't a good movie, I'll bring it back to the store and get my $27 or something back

.....What underlieing question? You see some deep-seated philosophical meaning to his question? He just wanted to know if there was nudity in it because he can't get it is there's any/too much.

Well, it sounds like you've got your answer, but I thought I'd add this anyway. I bought the special edition recently and the box says, "Rated R for graphic violence and brief nudity". I guess that one quick shot others mentioned is the brief nudity and they'd know because they've seen it and I haven't yet. I thought the nudity might not even be mentioned if it was so brief (a couple seconds people said), but I guess a warning had to be put on the box anyway because it is there. *shrug*

You see some deep-seated philosophical meaning to his question?

Don't be an ass please.
He wanted to know WHY he isn't allowed to c stuff like that.

Answer: His parents are morons (unless he hasn't turned twelve yet)

Personally I think nudity and graphic violence are just fine.
It's in a movie people...not in real life. Better do something about the violence irl first.

Akira is one of the movies/series which made me fall in love with anime.
It's a worthy classic and good value for money because you have to see it at least twice if you wanna get the whole package.
The special edition isn't all that though.
The extra features are soso.
And there's no nudity in it. Breasts aren't to be considered as nudity.

One mmore question...do your parents actually watch the movies you buy?
Kinda sad...for them

I don't think it's sad that his parents watch anime. Mine saw fist of the north star as their first movie of course now they have a really bad idea about anime in general. But that's ok coz I prefer to watch tv alone.
What is sad tho is that your parents saw the movie before you did.

Actually, I think he was talking about how his parents "hawk" over him about what movies he watches.

It's annoying, and paranoid of them.

i'll probably get flamed for this but i don't want my kids to watch cartoons, i'd rather have them read a good book

If you think being called an idiot is a flame...well yes then.

It's like this...books as an artform are overrated.
And I know this ---- because I'm currently studying Literature at the University of Antwerp. There are lots of arguments why books are supposedly better then Anime(argh...not cartoons...there's a slight differance)/movies/documenteries etc. but most of these reasons are bullshit.

I'm not saying books aren't valuable...THEY ARE...so I suggest you make yer kid read at least a few good books.
But if he doesn't like it and you force him to keep on reading you're a moron...he/she will only hate literature even more.(By the way I'm not saying that you would force him)

I'm sorry dez1982...but you're post sounds a bit pseudo-intelligent.
You say you don't want yer kids to see (ANY???) cartoons?
Dumbass remark...think about it.

He just said he'd RATHER.....he didn't say anywhere he'd force them to do it. Don't go around calling everyone an idiot.

He also said this.
Besides if you had read my post you'd have seen that I said

By the way I'm not saying that you would force him

Let me put it this way...people (in general) who won't let their children watch cartoons and make them read books instead are dumb cultural wannabe idiots

You happy now? Did I set your mind at ease? Maybe I should apologise to dez huh...yeah that would be the "right thing" to do.

Hey. I didn't come here insulting you. So get off your high horse and quit with the 3rd grade attitude.

And if you don't like it when people give you a "hard time" for insulting people, Go find another board to be an ass on.

heh i think i forgot to mention i don't have kids yet ... and i woulden't forbid them to watch cartoons if they want to but there are some anime's out there that i'd rather not have my kids see without my parental guidence...movies as "ninja scroll" (has some explicit s3x scenes) or "fist of the northstar" (extreme violence)..
especially if my kids are still young. The age at which kids are "grown-up" enough to watch these movies and intepret them in the right (or not so wrong) way should be decided per kid, as each kid is different. But in general i'd say an age of 16 is on the safe side.

I hope my thoughts on this aren't so unreasonable as some ppl might think here. (i know a lot of my posts contradict what i say)

But judging from some of the posts i made here i can say that some anime MIGHT have corupted me

I was 7-8 years old when i saw fist if the north star the tv series its not quite as bloody as the movie but the heads still explode all over the place there's. And look at me I turned out ahem perfect. In my eyes your never too young to watch violent cartoons. You might not realize it but the power rangers are just as violent with the difference that there's no gore.

well, If his parents are really worried about him seeing breasts then he shouldn't, but if he's been buying hentai, and his parents caught on/him... then well that's his fault his parents hawk him.

The anime may have a quick shot of Kaori's chest, but the manga has a full-on bath scene with Chiyoko. Which sounds nice, until you see Chiyoko...

It's also got the man-nudity of a couple of post-apocolyptic would-be rapists. Woohoo.
