As we all now the creative team that brought us Lain has released a new anime, Niea_7. Now Niea_7 and Lain are totally opposites, Lain is a depressing drama and Niea_7 is an uplifting comedy. But they have one link. The black bird (Crow/Raven, I don't care what kind of bird it is) in the opening sences for both anime's. Is their any signifgence to the black bird being in the opening of both anime's of is it just because they were done by the same people?

The crow is usually an omen of death. However, it can also be a messenger of the gods. In Lain, I believe its presence in the credits is significant. I think in NieA_7 it just made it in there as sort of an in-joke. Same creative team and all that. I could be mistaken, though, having not seen the series.

have to see the entire series before i can comment with a full opinion. very interesting idea, you've brought up. we'll see.
I've always imagined it being there due to the studio having fun linking itself to that crow... some kinda inside-joke.
It could just as well have a deeper meaning though, I guess I'll just have to see more of Niea_7 before I'll know.

I agree with havok on this one. However speculations is always good. Perhaps like lain, maybe everything should be looked into and accounted for while watching the series? Maybe the surface of it is just a clevor ploy for what really is coming up in the later half of the series? *sigh* Must finish series before i go on guessing though. Regardless from what i've seen of both dvds (yes, second one is out and for sale if you live out in the right areas), I like what i've seen. Its got me interested... like whats up with the mother ship? :confused2
Here's a neat page that specifically talks about the similarities between Lain and Niea_7:

I'm more interested in the similiarities between the goofy-sounding male vocalist for the opening credits of NieA_7 and the over-dramatic male vocalist for the ending Lain credits. IMHO.
I'll have to watch the series more to be able to compare it to Lain.

After thinking about it, there is another small connection to Lain...the alien. It's obviously a large part of NieA_7, but in Lain, there are some references and direct scenes that contain aliens. Current thread about this in Lain here (http://animeboards.com/t8542/s.html). <---**SPOILERS***

I've heard that in anime/manga drawing the artists sometimes use an animal to represent themselves in their drawings... I've seen some that use cats. Perhaps this is just a similar deal with the raven...
But I did notice the raven and was rather intruiged by it. However, I know the danger of reading too much into things (my dad was trying to read too much into Lain, and by the end of the first tape was convinced that it was about a government conspiracy and such... lol)

You could be on to something... ravens are also very prominent in AbE's newest anime, Haibane Renmei. They actually have a role in the story in Haibane though... Maybe he just likes them?
