View Full Version : Now for something different
We seem to have gotten really good about taling about what we hate about Big O. How about we start to talk about what we like. I know this seems like a strange concept in this forrum, but can we please give it a try. I want to hear what you have to say before I chime in. So let us begin.:D

Big O was pretty good. I haven't seen it since it was removed from toonami. Depends some of the episodes like the first one, one with the piano player android, many others i enjoyed. I wish i remembered it a little better, but overall it wasn't bad.:)

I liked the plot (oh yes you lam0rs it has one, a good one too!) and the mech designs. Some of the characters seemed a bit shallow to me though they were still good. I really liked the idea of the "possible last city on Earth and everyone is suffering from amnesia" story. The Bif O itself was badass too.

well so far i've only seen the first dvd (never home when it was on toonami and was too tired to watch it on midnight) and so far, me likes. i love the music (i'm a jazz freak at times) and i kinda like roger's slew of weapons. plus, dorothy adds another interesting dimension to roger... once i get some extra money (i'm still trying to finish trigun, lain, and start nieA_7) i'll pick up the next one. does anyone know if toonami will start airing it on midnight again?
EDIT: (just realizes that this was my 200th post and does a super monkey happy dance. trust me, you don't want to know either. http://www.ifrance.com/animegifs/evangelion/nge-c.gif )

Plot was great; episodic by nature but the well developed characters and the overall atmosphere of the city made them work out pretty good :D Characters were great, especially Dorothy. Music was awesome, dub was awesome, etc... the only problem I have with it is the mecha. Big O looks like a train with a head -_-
As for Black_Knights usual idiotic posts, I won't even bother replying this time.

I liked the Batman feel to the character designs and the cities. I see it as more of a comic book approach and the change in visuals compared to other anime is welcome.
I didn't see all the episodes...most of the ones I missed were near the end, so I can't comment much on the plot, but I liked the gradual progress it gathered. I also like the general premise of the show.
To top it off, I thought the English dub wasn't bad. ;)

of course the dub was good! it had that dave...guy... that played spike! and he's one of the best darn voice actors out there... IMHO...

Plot for me. I was really interested to see what the crap was going on. Not knowing made RD that much more amazing.

The plot was great. Having bit and pieces of it revealed in every episode made the series that much more engrossing. I really liked the visuals, because they had a real atmosphere to them that was great.
That and Big O had an awesome design to him. I don't care what people say, I LIKED THE BIG O MECHA DESIGN!!!

YES! I'm glad to hear someone agrees with me! If gundam took place in the 20s, that is what the mechas would look like!

I get chills thinking about that… But this is something out of an American comic book… That is for certain…

I happen to like comics of all kinds and find that thinking one type of comics is better than another is kind of narrow minded. Opening your tastes to include many mediums of storytelling can only improve your horizons, trust me on this.

comic books are one of the best places to get ideas... and I think that the mega-deus design is very clever....

One of my favorite quotes comes from Big O:
"You're a louse, Roger Smith."
You have to admit, given its context, it is quite amusing.

yeah and strangely enough I had a friend in high school that was going to become a priest... I learned nothing from him...
Any episode where Roger Smith is confused I like... he tries to be the man who knows everything, then finds out he knows so little... only to know it all again by next episode...

The Big O design wasn't from any american comic book. Old Mech shows like Tech Romancer and Giant Robo used Robots that were big and bulky and looked like they couldn't stand up straight, as opposed to the Streamline looks of the mechs such as Valkyries(not Veratchs, you Robotech lunatics!! Robotech isn't even a real Anime!!) and Gundams. The designer wanted that big look. Why? I don't know. Go ask him yourself.

26-11-01, 06:03 PM
Yes, it is VERY big, but it does move around pretty good...

That Dave guy is all over the freakin' place! Lessee...
He's the voice of Roger Smith, Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop, the emperor of Crateria from El Hazard: The Alternative World, Yamaki from Digimon: Tamers, Al's father in Gundam 0080, and the voice of Tom, the mascot of Toonami!
I wanna be as busy as that!
I'm a V/O man and I wanna have that much work, too!
It's not fair! :bawling:
O.K. , now that I'm done whining...
As far as the animation style of Big O being similar to Batman, Daedalus told me once that the same guys who worked on the Batman animated series beginning in '91 did Big O, too, which accounts for the similarities.
