I love it.
I at the end of the first season right now.
The music is great, the CG is terrible, the animation style odd, but it is incredibly addictive.
It has also sparked an enormous interest in racing/driving techniques in me.
animation wise, Initial D isn't that great. but i love the storyline and most of all, i love the cars they use in this series. every single car in the show is based on real life cars (none of those make believe cars :)) can't wait to see 3rd stage sometime.
in my opinion takumi is too good. they should've made him more life-like instead of "god-like" when we races on those dangerous mountain roads.
i would highly recommend this series to any car fans out there. simply wonderful

I've only seen a few episodes but so far I've seen I like it!!!!:D
I really like the car races and the cars!!!! Very exciting!!!!:D
But the way how they drew the characters are little weird.........uhm.........for example the eyes, looks kinda square don't you guys agree?

hai~ ^^; the artists incorporated a whole unfamiliar style towards me ^^;; the way they blended the CG and trad. animation together was a bit rough and could've used a bit more work, but still .. I found the show to be more than I first expected ^^;; . . and Yes. . Takumi does use the drifting technique a bit too well .. **
Go RX-7~! ^^;;;; erm. . not meaning it's driver that is.
I watched the first episode but didn't like the animations style so I gave up

Thats is really a pity cause the animation is not what its about, Initial D has a strange addictive style which make you wanna go back for more. And one episode is by a longshot, not enough to make a opinion of a serie. Remember there is two season an extra and a movie of the serie, so it can't be all bad neh? :)

hmmm...this sounds interesting. it kinda sounds like 'fast and the furious'. maybe i should go see it. ill re-edit the post if i can download it later
i watched the whole series, and liked it. in fact, i have all the first stage dvd's, and the third stage too. right now im looking on buying initial D second stage. the extra stage wasn't that great :D
Initial D's animation only gets better... which is a good thing because the animation in First Stage was... awful. ^_^;;
It's still a great show, with funky tracks and sweet moves. I haven't seen Third Stage yet but I've seen clips of it and it looks SWEET. Seriously, if they had the animation at Second or Third Stage level to begin with, there'd be a whole lot more people willing to watch it. :P
Keisuke looked hotter in 1st stage than he did in 2nd and 3rd stage. But Ryosuke looked drool-worthy in 2nd and 3rd stage.
:heh: plot? what plot?

Animation-wise, it wasn't so great. But since it's about racing cars, and ae86 is an awesome car, and Keisuke drives an RX7FD just like me, and it's yellow too, and his hair is like mine, I wish he were real to go race him, Ryosuke, and Takumi...
At least the car facts they got right (unlike in West Wing where they said something about the Canada/Detroit border... um... there isn't one... Detroit doesn't touch Canada... get a map!) and the racing tips and tricks were useful...

I wish I could go to Japan and test those wonderfull mountain roads you have there :D
On a side note, isn't it illegal to modefied your car like Takumi fathers did, when he installed a 11000 rpm racing engine, cause this would mean atleast racing suspension, lowering the car for better grip and re-enforce construction to cope with the increase torsion stress. They didn't mention the HP the race engine produce, but I think its well over 280 HP, the limit the Japanese government put on cars.
