He's a male. The only reason he got a bit mixed up was because his sister died. Even if he's gay, he's still a guy.

but anyway, i think he develops an eye for Miyaka and starts looking after her later on in the series.

Nuriko is a guy, there's no doubt of that.
But he's always feminine..
..before he dies, he says he'll stop chasing after Hotohori and be straight from then on, but he had been developing a crush on Miaka then...::#$%^$ing Miaka complex...kill it..::
When the OVA series comes in, though, he has his hair back, an' continues his persuit of Hotohori, but a little less avidly as he had in the EV series..part of the reason is because of Houki..

Nuriko is quite possibly one of the strongest (in more ways than one) anime an' manga characters, as well as most developed I've ever seen.

It didn't really matter whether Nuriko was a man/woman. He has the body of a man and the soul of a woman. wouldn't care which gender he was. I wouldn't mind having a friend like Nuriko, because it's someone I can talk to about anything.
At first I thought he was a girl because of the long hair, the voice, and the huge eyes. Shouldn't guys' eyes be smaller than girls?...oh well. It was really clever to cover that up. Nuriko was a really good character to have in Fushigi Yuugi, and it just made me literally cry when he died...:bawling:

Nuriko's a guy who acts like a gal! At least, that's my experience. I've only seen the first 8 volumes, though, so, don't hold me to that.
