Why do all great anime seeries do this?
They get a great storyline,characters,anime-style and meccha action and as usaul the characters relationships seem as about as adult as Seaseme street.
Why can't Akito just get together with the captain? Even if he did'nt love her he could easily get her into bed. I mean come on. A beautifull, slender bodied girl like Yurika that offers herself to him on a plate and he just acts like a two year old?
It's just not how people act. It would be a lot better if he just slept with the girls and broke off relationships with them when he
got fed up with them or moved on to another one.
If they did that it would be so much better and attract a lot more wider range of fans.

yeah, but then we wouldn't have a plot-line. I mean, look at Love Hina. Keitaoru lives in a dorm with half-dozen hot girls, all of which are after him. He still doesn't make any moves (apart from accidently).
besides, the outline you described would be promoting morals that shouldn't really get promoted. I mean, breaking it off with someone just because you're sick of them is pretty bad, you shouldn't have got with them in the first place.
also, the extended plot-line gives more depth to the series. I gag every time I see some film where the hero meets the girl and five minutes later we have the "dancing doona" scene. its sooooo dodgy. never happens that way, trust me.
and dont forget that its also a culture thing. anime does happen to be japanese, and I dont really know much about japanese culture but i'm sure that its being reflected in the anime.
besides, akito has too many problems on his plate without having to worry about weather he'll get on with the captain that night or if her and megumi will have another ------fight.

Yeah....i ALWAYS thought they'd never get together. But blow me! Right at the last episode THEY DID! Wow now that was unexpected:rolleyes:
The very fact that guys like Akito and Tenchi are so helpless around women is what attracts many people to the series. It is the basis for 99.9% of the comedy and drama of the series. Without that you would just have another Shinji Akari who doesn't want to fight, is searching for himself, and stays angry at the world. It shounds to me that you just want some action pact mecha series, but that's not what Nadesico is all about. It is about Relationships and comedy and drama. If it wasn't it would be Eva.
Well maybe not eva. It needs a complex REALLY complex plot for that. But it would be different.

Half of the fun of the series is seeing how the different women try to get Akito's attention. If he chose one, then we wwouldn't have all those classic scenes with the Megumi and Yurika swooning over him.
It's even funny to watch Arena trying to get herself into the mix, eventhough you know she'll never get anywhere. And don't forget the frustrations of the rest of the male crew. When I saw Aribataki "walking away" ;) from the bunny suit Yurika was wearing in Get to Know Nadesico, I nearly died laughing.:lol: If he would have been smoking a cigerette at the same time, I wouldn't be here to tell you the tale. :smokin:

Ahh, but you see! It's all relative. The fact that she is beautiful and slender is in our eyes, not necessarily in his. Think about it, across many anime, how often is it that you encounter an important character who looks like they've been run over by a truck. Taking this into account, the perception of what beautiful is changes and so the limits of what is ugly and what is beautiful change accordingly. Then of course you have to take the love factor into account which throws it all out of whack. ^^
Anyhow, I could just be saying this 'cause I hate Yurika, uggh, she is such an idiot. Well at first she is, towards the end she becomes tollerable.
What I wouldn't mind is seeing Akito with someone more... interesting ^^... Akito and.... Maki? XD We could've had something there.
XD Speaking of which, I wouldn't mind seeing an anime where the main guy goes after the weirdo instead of the 'destined' woman. ^^

I was showing a friend it for the first time and i said "look there's now ay Nadesico is for little kids" it started off with those seaseme streets backdrops and the "321...kaboom!" AND THE FIRST THING SAID WAS "Hey kids! we're back! come closer.."
I was kicking myself forgetting that came first^^
and when June said "oh..she's so cute..no NO! NO! I must resist!"

well, not quite... but similar.
he only goes gooey when he sees Yurika. He was trying to resist doing the same when he saw Ruri.
either that or he was trying to resist turning into a little kid.

hey guys, it looks like you have a lot of experience in the show, that is a good thing. but MAN are you guys FUNNY!!! :D my friend RyanSchultz and i watched the entire series on a cumputer screen! it was pretty funny, and it was a lot of fun, but it is not as funny without the reactions that the other male members of the crew show when Akito, my favorite character, runs away from the women. the part when Yurika makes her "food" and the other girl makes her "energy drink" just killed me. the humor is that they know that he couldn't just choose one of them until the end, but they still try, unsucessfully, to get him to like just one. that just cracks me up. keep up the funny posts, an d can i get in on the "raid of Mr Smith's house?" you guys are soooo funny! maybe he's French, inside joke. :p
dawm right! And as Akito said when he ate Yurika's cooking.."BWAHHHHHHHHHHHHAHO!"

Or Standard Main Female Anime Character Food. There is not an single Anime in which the lead female character can cook.

I haven't seen it. But a friend of mine who has was the one who pointed this fact out to me. So, don't feel to smug.
In Tenchi Muyo, Ryoko is the only one who is shown not to be able to cook. But that Sasami, she is a wiz. In fact, now that I remember it in Hello Baby Washu cooks.

i don't think that japanese people like women's food, all the women in animes are horrible cooks, but ALL the male cooks cook really well
I said Main female character, or Lead female, which Sasami an Washu are not.
hmm.....*checks anime collection* Sakura Avalon from Cardcaptors could cook pretty well:p
Well I haven't seen that.
But you gotta admit that the vast majority of lead female characters in anime can't cook.

What most of the lead female characters cook is biological weaponry.:D
