What is it about? It's been mentioned a couple of times in the Animeboards Top 100 thread (http://animeboards.com/t28026/s.html)(vote if you haven't yet!!!) and I am now interested in seeing this anime. However there is one problem; I have no clue what it's about!!! Well that isn't true but I would like a better idea of what it is about if possible.
And I get the feeling that one of the people who will be answering what I say will be Kawaii_no_Miko (because I know that she has a Kare Kano avvie).

You never cease to amaze me Akira dear.
Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou - Directed by Hideaki Anno under the production of Gainex. It about life in High School depicting of an over-achieving girl and her competitor (who turns out to be her....BOYFRIEND! :eek: ).
Expect no weird apocalyptic moments (well....when it comes to overeacting to something rather silly, it is), funny, sweet, and psychological moments.
A note to others, this is NOT a copy of Shinseiki Evangelion.

It is certainly not an Eva clone :p The series does posess some similarity to Eva in the depertments of character complexity and depth ( though none of the minds are quite as... intricatly troubled as the Eva ones, the characters are generally much lighter).
It's really a great show, sweet and touching, it has ,by far, the best anime love story I have seen (Go Hideaki, Go! No, wait! Stay away from that hamster! *scream*). Sadly, I felt that the quality of the show somewhat deterioriated in the later episodes :( I heard Anno quit midway.

Well I went to the GAINAX website and looked for it and I doubt that Anno quit midway since he is credited with working on the last episode.
Out of curiosity is this series recent or an older title?

Its a fairly recent series (can't remember... 99 or 98? I forgot. :heh: ) but its not like its that old. If you search around theres been a couple of threads here in this forum discussing this series.
The manga itself is on manga 11, the anime however was based on the first 8 volumes (if memory serves me correctly). The anime is nearly identical to the manga except for one or two things.

Kare Kano (his and her circumstances) is one of the best anime series out there. Go see it now, or um...you will....be missing out on a kick ass show. Yeah. :look:
KareKano is a shoujo romance/drama/comedy series - but it appeals to both guys and girls.
it's a very good series and definately worth checking out :)

Well at least expect to have Tenshi no Yubikiri and Yume no naka e in your head.
But its disappointing that he left midway :(
Here's a fun fact about the series.
Before production of Kare Kano, Hideaki himself went to an ACTUAL High School and studies the life and interactions of students.
That's what inspired him to produce Gainex's successful project since Evanglion, Kare Kano.
I love the series.

Whee, I was hoping somebody would say something about Kare Kano . . .
matsu's got it right . . . its a great romantic comedy/drama series . . . set in high school, its a surprisingly complex series, that makes you think quite a lot every episode . . . similar to NGE in that sort of respect, in that it can make you ponder on some things for ages . . . at least, it did for me . . .
It is true that the later episodes seem to lose the sparkle that the earlier episodes had . . . but are still definately worthwhile to see . . .
And of course, there's Pero Pero . . . ultimate kawaii pet . . . ^^;;
You know, you've had that Yukino avatar for centuries now, Kawaii_ No_Miko, and I never ever noticed it before . . . weird . . .^^;;

yep that's rite. He interviewed groups of students and lead a discussion on school life, social life and basically the views of the 'younger generation' :)

No, there wasn't a Karekano forum... however i think at one point there was a petition for a karekano forum being requested.

Guess what now have in my possesion... Manga 12 of KareKano! ~~cheers~~ I was shopping at Mitsuwa in Asahiya and right there... it was just sitting there looking lonely. Book 12! I had no idea it was out... haven't had time to go through it yet but the character on the front looks unfamiliar. Maybe a new character? :D

Not 100% sure, but if KKNJ gets picked up, it would prolly be translated by the people over at Tokyopop. The manga that i was referring to was Japanese (no english texts)... you can check over at Tokyopop to see if they have the rights to release the manga in english.
