What job do each of the goddesses have dealing with the Yggdrasil system? Skuld gets rid of bugs in the system, but I have forgotten the others...

Urd is a sysadmin and Bell was a programmer... I'm not 100% sure on those facts though...

Can someone back me up? Or correct me? (Something I dont' know the answer to... ugh, not good. ~goes back to reading~)

i dont really know what they do..... i know skuld gets the duty of killing bugs, and urd has something to do with yggdrasil. with belldandy, i have no idea. :D

so, i think cloakactive is right. :D

There isn't too much explicitly laid out in the manga, but here's what we do know:

Urd - Sys Admin. Basically, she runs the show, though during Terrible Master Urd it appeared that the Almighty was stepping in as Sys Admin. Later, Peorth is playing stand-in admin (Welsper story arc).

Skuld - Debugger/programmer. Urd does programming, too, but her first instinct is to order Skuld to do it (see the Exorcist girl/Garm chapter). Skuld is more skilled with Yggdrasil than apparently any of the other goddesses but Urd. In the manga, between the time Urd appeared and Skuld appeared, poor overwhelmed Skuld had managed to let things deteriorate pretty badly (not her fault, but shows that Urd is the primary admin).

Belldandy - There's a scene where she and Peorth are doing some sort of debugging assignment. Not certain if this was a regular work thing or some kind of final exam for Goddess School (Belldandy and Peorth are contemporaries, about the same age, despite rumors to the contrary). Anyway, Belldandy is primarily a field support person - "answering the phones" as Urd calls it. :heh:

Peorth - Same as Belldandy, though she seems to add some kind of stand-in admin/security title when Bell-chan and her sisters are on Earth. When things get bad for Yggdrasil, though, the Almighty calls Urd and Skuld back to fix things (the Welsper story arc) and sends Peorth to track down the hacker. So, it seems that in the absence of Urd and Skuld, Peorth (and presumably Belldandy) gets to stand in as admin until some serious problem happens.

Hope that helps. The roles on the demon side aren't as clear. Hild may be admin there, Mara seems to be purely field (has no computer-related savvy, apparently).

The one thing about Bell though, is that she no longer works as that job role... If she still did, she would have to leave Keiichi every once in awhile.

Hild, I believe, plays the opposite role or equivalent of what God is to Heaven...

Everything WtC said, I agree with, and just an fyi... you can actually find more stuff on some of the AMG related web pages out on the web. ^^

Belldandy certainly doesn't seem ready to leave Keiichi's side for an instant. Right now I guess you'd have to say she's on an extended leave of absence. :D

As for Hild, thanks for clarifying that point, since my post was confusing. She's definitely the Almighty's opposite number. The admin reference comes from that line she gives that she's locked with her personal key the spell program keeping Peorth in girl form. Of course, the Almighty can probably do the same thing to Yggdrasil, lock programs and such, so Hild is probably not the admin for Nidhog after all.

Hmmm, Nidhog was like a dragon monster at the bottom of Yggdrasil in Norse mythology, I don't REALLY see how it corrolates...

Sorry. :)

Nidhog is the demons' computer system, basically their Yggdrasil. No evidence that it has anything to do with running the universe like Yggdrasil does, but I've heard it theorized that Yggdrasil and Nidhog are a "virtual pair", meaning 2 systems running on the same hardware and sharing data (so Peorth could be affected by a spell which had components on both systems) but in separate memory spaces so they don't interfere with each other - too much.

When you think about it, if Yggdrasil is a computer then Nidhog has to be another computer or else an AI, so it makes sense that it's the demons' computer system.

Hopefully that answers your question without raising more? I need to remember when to keep my thoughts concise rather than just rambling on about stuff. With certain subjects (OMG is near the top of the list) I have a bad habit of liking to hear myself talk. :)

Sorta like the doublet system. The pairing up of angels and demons... Like Bell and Welsper. It would sorta make sense that if this is how it works with the angels and demons, that the systems would work like this as well. I think the only person who would be an exception to the doublet system would be Urd since shes half angel and half demon.

I was thinking, it would prolly be more appropriate to think of Nidhog as a rougue server more then another computer. :heh:

Who doesn't? If i were you just relax... no matter how clearly you may explain youself, and no matter how precise you may be, people will always have a question.

Unfortunately I only have scattered issues of the OMG manga rather than whole arcs so I can't really contribute, BUT I would just like to point out that the subject of heaven as a computer with 'goddess' admins and technicians is one of the most ingenious postmodern concepts in fiction.

And you won't ever find a better explanation for how Life, The Universe, and Everything REALLY work when you get right down to it:D

Um 42?

Yeah, I just don't see how the symbolism matches up... I'd have to ask my roommate, Niddhog might try to destroy Yggdrasil in the myth... but if so, not very effectively.

Hmmmm....

I was so caught up in the relationship thing that I missed out on the data center reality model...

Wish my bugs were as cute as Skuld's.

Spider bunnies are not cute, they're the bane of humanity.

Damn geneticists. :finger:

Well, that is of course the BEST answer, but other than that, I like the OMG comp theory:).

But what is the question to Life, the Universe, and Everything?
