I mean their are few I heard of but the biggest one would have to be Jago's comment about the soup… In the orignal, he said it tasted like it was watered down… But in the American verison, he says it tastes like Donkey Piss… Kinda hard to think since there were no donkeys in Japan at the time! :D

There were complaints about how he said it tasted like donkey ---- and people were saying that didn't fit because it was in Japan, I stated that it may not be Japan since there's all that other crap roaming about. It was earlier stated that the watered down soup was supposed to be a serious insult, it would not be as such here, so saying it tasted like donkey ---- MIGHT make me mad if someone was dissin' my soup, and since it's not necessarily Japan, I say it's a valid translation, damn... have I made myself clear, are people going to continue to misconstrue what I say now?

I never said it wasn't a valid translation - Renard just said it sounded funnier than the literal translation, and that's fair enough - but you have to remember you're comparing apples and oranges in that case, because the original comment was meant to be understatedly cold, whereas the American remake was far more over the top. I suspect that's got something to do with the difference with the respective cultures.

I think we really do have to take a "mythical Japan" as the location, otherwise all the other cultural references become irrelevant.

Overall, the dub is VERY good, IMHO.Billy Bob was great(way better than the Japanese VA), and, well, the dub of this movie RULES :lol:

It's all in the tone of voice. If he told him "Oh honorable monk, your soup tastes so orgasmically good, I MUST have your children" using the right tone, he could make it sound like a insult. Personally, I think that caring about whether or not there were donkeys in Japan at that time is petty nitpicking.

I haven't seen the dub ,myself, only some clips, and what I didn't like about it is that Ashitaka's sound sounds balnd and emotionless. He sounds dead.
