Forgive me but I have never even heard of this series… What's it about and is it worth investing into?

Noir is just great, I've seen about half of the series and i can't wait to see all of it ^_^
its well worth buying if you can get it ;)
I think it has or will be picked up for a release in the US. If you like girls with guns and a tangled web of intrigue together with a terrific soundtrack, then Noir is worth a look :)
get the fansubs and watch. you won't regret it!

Noir is a truly excellent anime, I like it as much as Eva, if not more. You can go to my site for more info, but this is one anime you should definitely check out.
BTW, it is almost official that ADV do indeed now have the rights to Noir.

this may have nothing to do with the anime (as I havent seen it) but in the 1940s, there was a popular genre of film, known as 'film noir'. 'Noir' is French for 'black', so it pretty muchs means 'black film'. it's often very cynical, dark etc sorta stuff. Is the anime like this?

Noir doesn't exactly follow the typical "film noir" genre in the sense that its not really all that dark and cynical and gory. For one thing, you hardly ever see any blood at all (which is fine by me) despite the fact that at least 10 ppl get murdered each episode. But, its an excellent anime, highly recommended. :)

I haven't seen beyond the first 6 episodes of Noir, but if that sad chick dies at the end then it follows film noir style. I actually had been talking to my media teacher about it. In Film Noir, the hero is normally flawed and dies at the end or becomes worse.
Well, then it doesn't follow the Film Noir style, since they both survive :)
Opps, that was a bit of a spoiler wasn't it..........

Of the four main characters two survive and two die (no points for guessing which two ;)) The series is called "Noir" because of the assassin team they form, and the meaning behind that word and the Soldats. While the series is also called "Noir" to reflect the genre of film noir, it is not the main theme.
The director himself said "Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to promote murder."

Woah, you really spoiled that. Good thing I finished before this thread even started. You know, Noir is one of the few anime I've seen (I've seen few) in which the chicks don't have gigantic mellons.

........i don't think having a big chest would have a believable assassin.... it's just seems wrong...

my very good friend noticed that even though Mireille always wore short tight skirts, it never rode up when she was running, jumping and fighting... :D
If they did the whole look of the series would change.
