View Full Version : Yu Watase confessed...
i've just recieved this info and this has been kept quite some time...
Yu Watase has confessed on where she had taken the story of Ayayashi no Ceres from...
she had taken the story from a Filipino folklore (i think it's a visayan folklore w/c i've forgot the title)...
Belive it or not...
i thought it was taken from Chinese folklore/legend? :confused:
btw are we talking about just the legend of the tennyo?

I think that mostly everyone knew that Watase Yuu had based the background of the story on folklore....
or at least I did.... Cuz there was an interview with watase in Animerica about a 6 months to a year ago.... telling the story about the tennyo..a dn it is even explained in the Manga and anime...

Well, from her previous work of Fushigi Yuugi, that has a Chinese Folklore relating to Chinese Astrology and she researched her work very well done. For Ayashi No Ceres, tales of the tennyo is similar to all different versions around the world. She took the Japanese version of the legendary folk story and added something that will attract her fans once again.
It looks as if her specialty is NOT only on shoujos. But using asian folklores with a taste of modern shoujo into her project and...TAADAA! You've got yourself a smash hit manga and/or anime.
That's from my accordance on Watase Yuu-sensei's work.
Don't hurt me!
kawaii no miko is right...
during a dinner date with Watase Yu (after the recent anime explosion held in the Philippines last year), Watase Yu confessed to the attendees about the base of Ayayashi no Ceres...

hoe...my home country version is totally different O.o...all the parts untill where the tennyo or heavenly maiden finds out the truth about her cloak which stopped her from returning to the heavens is exactly the same, she didn't kill him her children trickedtheir father into giving it to her so they could see and believe that their mother is really a tennyo and she flew away with her children to the heaven and later also her so caleld earthly husband joined too but he came back to see hsi mother but was warned not to touch the erhtly ground or he will never able to come back to the heaven and umm he accidentally did touch the ground and to somehow help himthe heaven's emperor turned him into a rooster and fromt hat day on that rooster will always cry towards the rising sun every morning thinking of the heaven and his family. plus the legend could be from the Ainu tribe the indeginus tribes of Japan since the clothing and and face paint on shiso and others shows clearly that it was from those time in Ainu tribe all these mass have started.
chieri,
PS
but then a lot of shoujo manga artists creates their manga based on alot different legends and things from a myth. I read it one book that in old england they use to say that silver was a gift from the heavens=ginzuishou? galaxy cauldron= cauldron of life from ancient celtic religions which is said to give life and heal things.
^_^
that's the same story here...
Watase Yu only modified the story so that the setting will be Japan
try studying Philippine culture and you'll soon see the base of Ayayashi no Ceres

Really? It aint really much of a folklore. It was based on 4 sets of 7 constalations each represented by a chinese kanji character, there isnt much to research. Im not dissing FY, personally i like it very much but could u pls tell me how much research she put in to create the wonderful story known as Fy.
thx.

wellI can't remember clearly since it was when I was very young and I travelled extensively with my parents. one of the princess's tomb in china had these creatures the 4 dieties or guardians of the universe was painted in her tomb. There was also another tomb like that in Korea and in Japan. Before religions like buddist or others like so became dominant, shamanism was the most dominant religion among people. We in korea still believe in it but in very small scale.The ancient chinese map you see in the anime also existed irl. But she said that she based it in the 4 creatures she saw in one of the tombs in Japan from ancient times and so she reasearched. And also in taoism or daoism alot of their philosophy is put in as well. Like the attributes of each direction excep that sometimes they made the dragon of the east as also in green color was well.
Well let's just say thinkof it similarities in the late 80' work of souryuden?(did I spell that right ~_~;;?) by CLAMP also uses this attributes of taoism. How do I knwo ...ehh we had research the influence of asian religion in asian art works. O.o....!

O.o...now that is confusing....maybe it's different across different countries and regions, because they did say they that they were usually depicted in green, but since east's element was water sometimes they said it was of blue. Well that's what I had say but who knows? O.o....

Its as follows:
Chinese Name=Japanese Name=Translation
Zu Que=Suzaku=Red Peacock(or Phoenix, whichever u prefer)
Qing Long=Seiryuu=Green Dragon
Bai Hu=Byakko=White Tiger
Xuan Wu=Genbu=Black Tortoise
Theres no changing it, the color is written in the name.
Btw how did this turn into an FY thread?

I thought Seiryuu is a blue dragon

ahh no traditionally it's a green dragon. not blue. I believe she only used blue to match water element.

I dunt think the anime said anything about water. If Seiryuu is of water, what is Genbu and Byakko?
I think blue was used just cus its the "opposite" color of red, andc red n blue r cooler than red n green.:heh:

ahhh...elements and directions?
Here it goes,
Suzaku= south=fire=red/orange
Seiryuu=east=water=blue/or green :D
Bayakko= west=air=pale yellow/white
Genbu=north=earth=green/brown
I suppose it's wind instead of air in eastern magick. O_o...
I can keep oing on with everything from angels to times to everything but I won't confuse anyone with all that.
