Forgive me but I have never even heard of this series… What's it about and is it worth investing into?

Directed by Hideaki Anno (yes that Hideaki Anno), Kare Kano is the story of two students in high school and the ups and downs that they face. The series is supposed to be very good and is worth any money that you spend on fansubs or the dub whenever tha comes out.

I've answered that question to Akira-kun before (remember?).
A promising successful series directed by Hideaki Anno under the watchful eyes of Gainax. Though some people thought that this anime is mistaken as a sequel to Evangelion (which is NOT). I have to point out that Kareshi Kanajo No Jijou and Shinseki Evangelion have no likeness at all even though its was directed by the same man.
Before he directed the series, Hideaki went to various high schools to research on life in senior high around the clock. He also interviewed students on the highs and lows about their surrounding environments, especially friends, home, family and school.
Its ashame that he quit producing the series, which is a major disappointment to the fans who actually loved it.

:fftopic:
Here is Greenwood
It centers a young boy entering dorm high school life at a very late time and everyone loves to pick on Suka-kun the newbie of the twisted yet hilarious dorm, Greenwood. But the series are very funny though
But anyways, back on topic. Here is Greenwood and Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou have no similarities at all.

Does this mean there is no ending to Kare Kano, or that it was pre-maturely ended, or (like in the case of the recent movie "A.I") at some point during the series the directors of it changed?

Nah, there's an ending . . . its just not a very coherent ending . . . the whole series goes up the the 26 episode mark, but the last few episodes leave you with the feeling of 'hmmm, what the heck was that?' . . . that's not to say they're bad . . . they're just, well, different from the beginning of the series . . . very different . . . :sweatdrop
and, although I haven't seen AI, yeah, I think the directors did change halfway through the series, since Anno left . . . I rather think the change is kinda noticable as well . . .

When I first saw the ending, I thought, "What the hell was that???" :confused2 All I see are storyboard-style animation and that looks suspicious.
Then I've heard that from one source to another relating about my fave series mostly conclusive that the legendary (well, to me :sweatdrop ) quit Gainax half way through the project. Which is very disappointing.
I WANT MORE KARE KANO!

I don't even consider the so-called "ending" a proper conclusion to the series. it looked like someone just couldn't be bothered to do any more episodes and halfway through the "last episode" they just decided to quit with the whole thing - and quickly just finished off the remainder of the episode (which is probably what happened).
disappointed? somewhat and left rather dissatisfied.
However, they did include and somehow drew a conclusion to the Sakura/Tonami arc in the anime series.

okay... so how about ------- giving us an idea of what the story is actually about rather than discussing what happened to Anno, and whether or not the series is like Eva. the most information i got out of this thread is that it's a Romantic Comedy, which i already knew {btw, thanks for that, I'm Not A Doll}
oh yes, and by the ------- way, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence didn't switch directors. Steven Spielberg did the film entirely, all Kubrick had done before he died was discuss his ideas with Spielberg and explain how he wanted it and the way it all looked in his mind. the thanks goes to Spielberg for getting Kubrick's brilliant ideas so beautifully on film. especially considering how well he kept to the "Kubrick" feeling, mood, and tone.
so eitherway, what the ---- is KareKano about?

Its basically about the lives of two teenagers and how their relationships intertwine, weave together, and change over the course of the series. Ive said this before in another thread somewhere, but IMO they did a great job of completely delving into the minds of the two main characters and just making you feel connected to them. There isnt too much plot wise, in the traditional sense, seeing as the story is just these peoples lives starting with school, covering summer break (i think) and so on. But it drew me in quickly, and that was all that was needed i think.
As far as comedy and romance goes, i would say that both aspects are present most of the times, although the so called 'romantic' moments seem a bit more powerful when they hit to me... Some people might find them cheesy, fruity, or whatever, but the situation and the characters (even though placed in some typical anime settings) are 'real' enough to be genuine i think. They pretty much struggle through emotions that im sure most of us are familiar with, except in here it seemed like they touched on some that are so detailed (but so true) that most movies or animes leave them out to make room for other elements in the show. Fortunately here, those details are the main elements, so there is room to focus and space accordingly.

thank you Zepp... thank you very much.
just what i needed to hear actually... if you find the characters easy to get attatched to and feel their emotion, it sounds like something i would greatly enjoy. and if it's easy to relate to, then hell, i should definitely give it a chance.
