Hey, why does it change so much from Saber Marionette R to saber Marionette J. And why did cherry change so much from J to J to X? Well she looks better in tha latter, before she looked kinda sluttish.
Is Terra 2 society a gay one? How do they decide when to have children? they buy them in the market? Does the common T2 people think that people having marionettes is pervertion?

Saber Marrionette R is the hideous, deformed mutant offspring of the other series. It has NO relation to the others beyond using the same names and general location. Same situation as Tenchi Universe. As for the rest, well, you have watched the series right? It's all explained. Since there were no female survivors, the six men used genetic engineering to mix and match their DNA sequences and produce cloned offspring while avoiding inbreeding. While Marrionettes are incapable of bearing offspring, they help to fill the void of an incomplete population by providing a simulacrum of female companionship. Though, in such a situation, one would imagine homosexual relationships like Hanagata's are more common. Most everyone simply accepts the existence of marrionettes, and I've seen no evidence that anyone thinks of them as perverted. Whether any of this applies to R, I forget. I prefer to act as though that chapter had never existed.

Geez, and here I like R more than J.

Hitoshi Doi's site says that R is placed 200 years in the future.

Also, there is a reason why I like the SMJ anime more than the manga. In the anime, the marionettes (most of them) are just dolls, while in the manga many of them are used for men's fantasies.

Theres on chapter in SaberJ when someone steals lime maiden circuit. When they show the thieves story, it was that he bought a marionette and after that, when he was enjoying at home, an angry mob of neighbors started throwing stones at him while yelling "We do not want you to be our neighbour anymore, you marionette lover! Pervert"
Also I think this anime/manga shows a hard side of japans society. I think the guy who did this had several sexual traumas. For example, I found shockin that after lots of chapters when the marionettes treated Otaru as his lover, they finish up being his daughters!!!!!
And also, think about a world where girls are just marionettes, looks kinda mysogenist. Well, the real world goes to this destiny, with so many gals selling their souls just to be accepted. The resemble even more and more like marionettes. This applies not only to girls, but girls are more susceptive to this kind of behaviour. :( whyowhy. The more I know mankind, the more I love rei ayanami.:D

It's pretty hard to tell just how far ahead or behind Saber R is from Saber J because the carachters are completely new. The only thing that might hint that it's before is the fact that if the rebirth of women took place at the end of J to X then there would be no need for marionetes to still exist.

Yes, I liked SM - R but I like SM-J better. I was under the impression that R was supposed to take place before J -
basically "face" created the marionettes originally, and they were either put to sleep, grew up, and were awakened by Otaru, or perhaps they are just different characters entirely.
It does seem that men who treat their marionettes like wives, example, Otaru's sensei and Kyouko (his marionette) are driven out of the country because of their relationship.
It would seem like homosexuality would become more common and accepted, but Otaru obviously rejects Hanagata's advances and it seems like most people are at least more subtle about it since I don't recall seeing any obvious male couples in the series.
All the instincts for heterosexuality seem to be there at least in Otaru's case, considering how he reacts to his marionette's bodies and advances.

I don't know about Otaru. I always thougt of him as gay. All that time with those horny marionettes and nothing happened? c'mon!

Maybe they aren't that anatomically correct? Or Otaru was afraid of being crushed by Lime's orgasmic enthusiasm? Or he wouldn't have the stamina to satisfy all three of them and wouldn't want to have hurt feelings from the one(s) left out?

At least he seemed to have some occasional urges towards them...

Yeah, me too. But Otaru at least should have tried. Like being surrounded by the good and the bad girls in SMJ again, and all of them trying to get a piece of Otaru. I would have been happier than a dick with 2 dicks
