Well, the commercial says that in the Reactor, you can download Record of Lodoss War episodes. Well, all I saw was a synopsis.. I'm lost... Why don't they tell the truth?

Yeah Record of Lodoss War on Cartoon Network would be better. I haven't checked yet, but are the downloads all un-cut? Toonami splices them to bits when they air. Adult Swim isn't too bad at times thought with Cowboy Bebop.

For various reasons I don't think they will ever show Record of Lodoss War on Toonami. The Lodoss series is mildly gory which can be easily edited, but then you lose some of the plot if they do edit it. Think about Beld's death, how can they edit that and still let the viewers know it happened?
Another reaosn why they won't is because it's far too short. There is little replay value on OAV series. 8th MS Team got quickly shelved and pretty soon Gundam 0080 will be put away as well. If Lodoss does air, they will most likely have the TV series to go along with it as is the case with the many Tenchi series. But I really don't think they'll show a series that depicts the ravages of medieval warfare even if it is very mild in comparison to reality.

Which is first? the OAV or the TV Series...cause if I'm watching it correctly...Ashram has the Demon Soul Crusher, yet Parn still has his dad's old sword? I think he took the king's sword?

Heh, we should put a permanent message at the top explaining the whole TV series relation with the OVA thing.
Oh well, I'll explain it again:
There are 7 Lodoss Novels, actually a lot more than that in terms of additional stories, but the original 7 Novels are the main plot written by Ryo Mizuno
The OVA Series episodes 1-8 are based on the first novel and the first novel only. Two major differences are in those first 8 episodes when compared to the book. The last 5 episodes of the OVA are not from the book, though they borrow story elements.
TV series episodes 1-8 are Novels 3 and 4 (no Novel 2 animated). TV series episodes 9-27 are Novels 6 and 7 (no Novel 5 animated).
In other words, OVA is first. Parn should have his Dad's sword in the OVA up until episode 12. Ashram should have his regular sword up until episode 7.
If you're watching the TV series, Parn should have his regular sword and Ashram should immediatly have the Demon Sword at the very beginning.
In case you want to know, Novel 2 is about Parn and Deedlit searching for Woodchuck. They end up in Flaim and end up helping King Kashue stop a civil war from happening by uncovering a conspiracy started by some desert clan that worships an Efreeti of some sort.
Novel 5 is about Parn helping Valis survive the Marmo/Allania hostilities and then focuses on the start of the civil war in Moss. The civil war of Moss continues on until Novel 7 and is actually mentioned several times in the later parts of the TV series.

8th MS team already ran 5 times and by that time people will be bored of it. same thing with 0080. and cn only licensed the tv series and not the ova. although i do think that lodoss will be on toonami eventually (maybe not soon) b/c cn payed a lot of money for it and i dont think that they are just gonna put it on the net. and about the edits, CN's censors has been getting better lately, theyve been showing blood on dbz (all of it) in the this past season, and they already showed a lot of people dying. so i think it will be fine, and if it will be edited, i also think its gonna be fine, people will still like it, at least they did when cn aired OS

I still feel that Beld's death scene would be a hard one to get past, it's more than just a little blood here and there. Look at how the Cowboy Beebop edits went, if they can't show all the blood in the middle of the night then I think they're gonna have a hard time with Lodoss for daytime. If they stuck it on Adult Swim, then that's another matter...

...it rains blood literally in bebop, i would say theres more blood in 5 minutes of bebop than beld's death and becuase of that they cant show all of it (if they did, then it may have caused some tv sets to stain red:rolleyes:) , and CN didnt edit them all, they reduced it , even though, they still left a lot in. and if indeed lodoss makes it to toonami, they're not going to edit the whole scene of beld's death, theyre just gonna either 1. reduce the blood 2. or take it out a la tenchi universe (when ryoko leaves)

Thanks Robotech Master. I'm trying to catch up. Been on and off the boards a lot lately mostly in the EVA forum and trying to catch up on a couple other series. It just seemed a bit confusing after watching the OVA cause some things didn't click.

your asking him, but ill answer anyway, i was also confused after watching the OVA and then CotHK, the first episode, i was like, 'didnt shiris and orson already meet parn? did they have amnesia all of a sudden?' anyway, what are the changes they made in the tv series?

The following is the list of changes made between the OVA and the novels.
Big Changes:
1) In the novels, the war of heroes is a bit longer, and doesn't end with Beld killing Fahn. The battle continues, with Karla never directly intervening to kill Beld as she did in the OVA. In the novels, King Kashue challenges Beld to an official duel just as Fahn did in hopes of avenging Fahn and defeating the Marmo. They fight, and Beld is winning. According to the rules of an honorable duel, you may receive help from no one. Yet during the battle, Beld is hit with an arrow in the arm by an unidentified soldier in the ranks of the army. Beld is merely stunned by this, but Kashu panics and takes advantage of this to move forward and kill Beld. They win the war this way, but Ashram never forgives Kashue for this cowardly act.
2) In episode 8 of the OVA, Parn and Co. meet Shiris and Orson on the way to Karla's lair. This isn't so in the novels. Shiris and Orson aren't introduced until the third novel, and since the TV series episodes 1-4 are the 3rd novel, that is why they are re-introduced. In the books, Shiris is only in novels 3, 4, 5, and 7.
SPOILER
Orson Dies in Novel 4 (Episode 7 of TV series)
/SPOILER
Minor differences:
The second episode of the OVA, where everyone meets, is slightly different. Parn was already a trained knight, though not a very good one. He meets Etoh outside of one of Zaxon's taverns, not in the woods after killing the goblin. In the OVA, they go off to kill the main Goblin force only to back track to the village in an effort to save it. It is here that Slayn and Ghim come in to help. In the novels, Ghim ran into Parn and Etoh while they were fighting goblins at their cave. He then travelled with them to the village.
TV series:
The TV series has no major differences from the novels that I know of. It does have major differences from the OVA, but only because the OVA has major differences from the books. I do know for a fact that the TV series still leaves out a lot of events and extra information provided in the novels. For instance, Spark and co.'s battle at the capital of Valis was much longer and much more brutal in the novels.

From what I've heard, the TV series practically is the novel. The actual story of Parn and friends takes place over a 10 year period or something like that whereas the OAV (the 13 episode thing) takes about 4 years or so to complete.
The OAV completely neglected the fact that Ashram was not killed, but rather left for Crystiania (sp?) with some of his people and Pirotess and another story is spawned from that, Legend of Crystiania(sp?). This makes Ashram less of a "bad guy" and more along the lines of a patriot doing everything possible for his people. That was one of my biggest complaints with it. Ashram was one of my favorite characters!

Record of Lodoss will probably make it's way to Toonami instead of Adult Swim in time since from my view it doesn't have enough mature themes in it to have to go to Adult Swim, even though it would be better there less cut. Trigun's Pioneer had interest in bringing their anime to CN, but I heard CN turned them away because of the extensive use of guns. Trigun isn't Trigun anyways without guns. Like Cowboy Bebop without cigarettes... Can you imagine if they edited every one of them out and put in gum insead. They would all be blowing bubbles.
