View Full Version : Any news on DYRL on DVD?
Is there any news as to if anyone will be releasing DYRL on DVD? I can't get an original on video tape (my video store has the subbed one but they can't get anymore in). The people in Australia who has the rights to it went out of business so is there anyone else here or in the US planning on bringing it out on disc?
It's one of my all time fav animes and I have to get a good copy of it!!
You can get a bootleg copy of DYRL on DVD on EBAY...I see them there all the time for like ten bucks. Im not sure we'll see the official release here anytime soon:music:

I can't speak for Australia, but in the US, I seriously doubt there will ever be a DYRL dvd. Harmony Gold still has the license for Macross in the US for the name Macross. The I know there was some lkind legal action taken when Manga released Macross Plus and Macross II. I believe anga had to pay HG some money because they violated HG's license.
Notice that I said the name Macross and not the entire franchise of Macross. Toy companies can make Macross stuff and as long as they don't call it Macross, they are ok. The infamous Attack of the Bionoids version of DYRL is named that because they couldn't use the Macross name. The whole thing is a big legal nightmare.
I'm amazed that AnimEigo is able to make their boxed set of the original series. I don't know how much they had to pay Harmony Gold, but I'm sure that's why the set is kind of pricy. Its also why you can;t get it shipped outside of the US or Canada.
So I think it'l be a long time if ever before there is an official DYRL dvd in the States.
GRAHHHH!! Harmony friggin' Gold!!! ......... Do you people SEE now what Robotech has done?! It's screwed up everything Macross related in the US and english speaking countries!! That's why everyone's afraid to bring out stuff for it now (even the Macross Plus mech figs were delayed everywhere outide of asia for a year because of this!) just cause the stingy money grubs who are probably earning all this by sitting on their asses doing nothing aside from paying for the copyright fees yearly for this legendary property and all it's making...
This drives me up the wall!! I'm glad Robotech Sentinel burned in anime hell (if you could even lable it a cartoon next to anime) cause it was sh!t anyway and I fell asleep after watching it for 10 minutes *the animation is burning my eyes!!!*
So then, all you Robotech lovers still think that Robotech is good for anime? *yeah right* Sorry if I've offended any Robotech fans but that's just the plain truth to my eyes and most people here know I'm not too thrilled with Robotech over Macross...
I guess I could track down an asian release hopefully with crappy or often missing english subtitles but all those releases are extremely inferior to the qualites of (obviously) official releases... And I don't want them on VCDs either cause they're plain crap and ripped off too.
*slams the door shut*

Yep, it's a fiasco over here. By the way, I simplified it. A few other people have various Macross rights as well as HG. AnimEigo had to publicly announce their intentions to release Macross so any of them could challenge them with lawsuits. No one really knows who has the rights to it anymore, but HG has the main ones.
Siren (The Aussie Company) never actually had the rights to distribute DYRL here, they did the same thing with Slayers. So odds of a Legit release are not good. The Japanese release looks really good but unfortunately it looks like theres no subs there. HG have made getting Macross in the states and anywhere outside Japan for that matter a complete nightmare.
Anyone want to help me go and blow up HG who seems to be at the centre of this? :D (and that's just a JOKE to any laywers out there reading this if it should magically blow up by accident tomorrow!)
But I thought it was Kiseki which had the rights for it and they went out of business but still have the rights (along with the Fatal Furys and Ranma)? Or are they from England???

I try not to think about the copyrights and legal rights about Macross. It tends to get very complicated and confusing very fast.
There was a thread about it at the Macrossworld forums about this a bout 2 months ago and it went on for pages and got really confusing.
I'm just glad AnimEigo managed to make the Macross DVD's for here in the US.
Ive been waiting for the Macross box set for a while now...im just glad the first 2000 box sets are shipping tomorrow :music:
