I'm not surprised for a lack of men in the cast. Women are known to voice girls as well as young boys in the original Japanese version. The only anime I can think of off the top of my head that is like this is Digimon 01 and 02

14 of the characters were voiced by women. Only two had male voices (1 kid and 1 digimon)
