When I first Saw episode 25 & 26 of Eva I thought that it was Dark and Emotional. (Auska as Shinji's childhood friend was funny though) I also thought that the "Congratulations" bit was a bit of a suck.
That all changed when I saw "End of Evangelion". EOE was the Dark one, full of Emotion. EOE made Episode 25 & 26 look like the Goodie-Goodie Ending.
Which takes me to my Question:
Why was there two endings made???
Was one for the younger Viewers to Understand???
Did they want to make more money???
Did they run out of money??? (25 & 26 did look low on budget)
To answer some questions not answered in the series???
So they could get away with more in movies than TV??? (Nudity, Auska fighting sceen)
It just seems that the Politics of Eva was just as confusing at Eva itself

are they not two halves of the same ending? I thought if you watch both you can see where they fit in with each other.
they are definately not the same.
the movies seem more matured, to me.
"Was one for the younger Viewers to Understand??? "
definately not.. nge is confusing for anyone. as anno said: "if you don't understand it, it is your own problem"
i believe the last thing on their minds was making it easy.
i think the red cross book says the movies were made because of "production errors"..
i think they ran out of time. both in that there were only two episodes left and time to make them.
well, to answer your questions:
the Japanese have censors for anime. EoE was the original concept for the end but since it was too bloody it sure wouldnt pass the review board. so in order to provide an ending for the tv series, Anno experimented and came up with the tv ep 25 & 26. if you are going to look into the story of both endings, you can see a similarity.
Thus EoE, being the original concept was released in the movies in all its splendor - and as you yourself said, "To answer some questions not answered in the series and So they could get away with more in movies than TV (Nudity, Auska fighting sceen) "
ok?
I heard after eps 25 and 26 where screened there was a view backlash and fans demanded a different ending, hence EoE.
heh heh. ATh is probably preparing a post right now.
It was due to backlash, from people who did not understand/want to understand 25 & 26. I'll admit that it takes more than one viewing to grasp it, but i bought the video and watched it again and again until i got it. In my opinion, 25 & 26 are an ending unto themselves. The movies are the the same ending, with L plates. Mind you I still liked the movies dearly, but anyone who badmouths 25 & 26 will have to face the wrath of "Super Pengin no Akujin" ;)
Well i was, but im in a bit of a mood.
What is the question here? is it about the TV ending or is it opinions about the TV ending vs EoE. I will not really say why there were two ending made, simply because i do not know, but i have heard a lot of hersay.
The only thing i will comment on is your last comment

it would seem that the story NGE tells was so big and real that it just had to be told. regardless of costs and personal politics ect.
