In case no one was paying attention I finally found this in previews, I think it is coming out in February of 2002. I'd have to double check what they are saying.

Finally, but why only subs? It is a DVD after all. I'm saying this cause it sorta implies no extras and other stuff. Are they doing no dub cause there IS no dub version?

Will the movie be any different from the OVA? Sorry but I've been out of the Macross loop for a while due to a lack of money and time

The movie, I heard, is bassically the 4 OVA's stuck together with some footage deleted and some new ones added. I heard it's worth watching even if you've seen the OVA's cause there's enough new footage to keep you interested. Anyways, who wouldn't want to watch Macross Plus more than 10 times?

There's no English dub of the movie, so that's why it will be subbed only. Manga would have to rehire the voice actors again for the new scenes that weren't in the ova.
Hopefully there will be some decent extras and they better have the audio in Dolby Digital 5.1
As Isamu said. There is new footage and the script to pre existing scenes was altered to work with the new footage. Another dub would be expensive and Manga has already released the Sub on VHS. *pats his tape*
I'm guessing that they see the average anime fan getting the OAVs and the Macross Junkies like us getting both and preferring the Sub anyway.
As to whether its worth it. I say yes. There are some great scenes added and more CG work.

I live for CG. It's what makes my world go round.
Then you would love the new Info High sequence in the Movie cut.

God I love that song.
All I need is a Dvd player, or a xbox, and some money, and a girlfriend.

i had heard that manga entertainment had only planned on releasing macross plus the movie on vhs. I also really like that Info High sequence, and it is one of my favorite songs of that movie. I have yet to see the macross plus oav's but still want to. i was thinking of getting them on DVD but now i'm not so sure, since the movie is coming out. what do you reccomend, getting the movie, or getting it and the oav's?

Is it in Widescreen?

Sadly no. Both the OVA and the movie aren't in widescreen. It would be nice if the movie was in widescreen on the dvd, but that's probably asking to much. Something tells me that it won't be in 5.1 sound either.
Probably not. Manga would have to remix it. It never saw a cinematic run so it would have been encoded in stereo and a sub only release means no new VA's to record in 5.1... Though from My Manga official release VHS tape the sound is great I watched it the other night... and it should be a good DVD. Haven't managed to find anything on the extras and I have been looking hard. Probably none.
Edit: There is also no widescreen because it was a straight to VHS release. Therefore no Cinema print exists. It was originally edited together in 4:3 NTSC format.

quick question:
i know that the movie has no dub, but does the oav have a dub.

Yep, but IMHO, sub is still better.

The OVA dvd's have both sub and dub, but only the dub is in Dolby Digital 5.1
