OK, I've watched the first episode of Lain, and I must say, I'm getting creeped already. Can someone give me an overview of just how disturbing this anime is gonna get? Also, how many episodes are there, and is this one I'm going to have to watch a few times to fully understand it, à la NGE? In otherwords, can someone give me a brief overview as to what type of anime this is before I watch it and get another goddamn freaky anime screwing me over?

It's defintively an anime you're gonna have to watch over a couple of times, perhaps even more times then NGE *blinks*.. I'd give it a pretty high freakiness factor myself, that's a part of the greatness of it all though. I'd simply say watch it and feel your poor mind get screwed.

Hey, that's what I'm worrying about, heh, I don't have the time right now to spend moping over hidden meanings and depressing scenes like I did when I watched EoE. Maybe I'll go give FLCL a shot.

It's quite a trip. It's designed to be that way. If you are an intuitive sort, don't try to think about it, it will just automatically happen.

I would absolutely NOT describe Lain as "disturbing." Hard-to-understand, yes. An anime that just about requires repeat viewings, yes. Freaky in some parts, yes.

But, at least you picked a very worthy substitute. :D:up: FLCL rocks.

The first DVD fried my brain, but things started to make sense by the second. It's your choice if you want to continue. When I bought the first one, I didn't really want to, but seeing as I had started it already, I thought I might as well end it. Anyway, thats as far as I've seen, but its looking better from there. I'm just about to start Deus - wish me luck :D

FLCL, Also known as Furi Kuri. Its pretty freeky in it own right.

As for Lain, on a scale of one to ten, I'd give it freekness factor of eleven.
It confuzzels you, makes you think you've got it figured out, and then confuzzles you again. And that in the ne veiwing.

Haveing said that, it rocks.

Hmm...lain is pretty creepy, but nothing too bad in my opinion. I'll agree with drizz that FLCL is a more than worthy substitute though  ...but I recommend you see lain eventually.

FLCL is definitely in my top four {along with Lain, Eva, and BeBop} but it's not something to turn to if you're looking to AVOID hidden meaning. in fact, i personally believe that FLCL has more hidden meanings and symbolism than Eva and Lain.

watch yourself...

Furi Kuri!
