at the end of the last episode pf the second series, Sakura's teacher is talking to Sakura's brother, and she asked if he knew that Yue(the false form, his friend) was not human, and he reply's yes. how did he know this?

Touyas' magical powers far surpases what everyone previously thought... its due to the level of his magical powers and his abilities that was able to "clue him in" on the fact that Yue wasn't human. Thats my take on it.

Touya is not as powerful as Sakura. Of course she surpassed his power. It was just that:
Sakura did not know/use/detect her power until she found the cards, whilst Touya had already had the magic (thus allowing him to contact Nadesico).
I doubt Touya could actually have opened the book if he had found it first. I guess Touya had a little power, but once Sakura started using her magic, she quickly became stronger than him.

Anyways, he gave his power to Yue, and thus, Sakura did actually surpass his power. She became the strongest shoujo mahon in the end, of course.

Touya ("Tori" >:P) has the ability to see spirits - shown in the anime in the flashback to when Touya greets the spirit in the cherry blossom tree at the Tsukimine Shrine. He also used to tell Sakura about the spirits he saw - hence her fear of ghosts. Sakura cannot see the spirits, but she can sense their presence.

The manga reveals that it was Sakura's destiny to become the next Clow mistress - Clow Reed (Read?) predicted and manipulated events so that she would be his successor, and even surpass him. So Touya had no chance of becoming the Clow Master... although seeing Touya in battle costumes would be hilarious ^_^

They never really explain what powers Sakura might have or might develop if she didn't become a card captor. Her brother though seems to have the ability to see things of a magical or supernatural nature. If you'll recall :

When the mirror card is out and about it tries to lure Touya into the forest. After he falls off a small cliff he tells it that he knows it isn't Sakura, he just thinks it's a restless spirit that lives in the forest and that it wants him to do something so it can rest in peace.

In later episodes Sakura uses mirror to create a duplicate of herself so that she can go card captoring without her abscence being missed. On those occasions Touya sees straight through the illusion and knows that Sakura is out doing other things. He even buys a present for mirror which shows up on the card when it changes back.

Touya has a basic idea as to what Sakura is doing. In simplest terms, yes... he knows.

For all of Season 1 and 2, and throughout the manga, Touya only ever exhibits his passive powers by detecting what is and isn't real. A character introduced in Season 3 shows that alot of magical ability is needed to see spirits.

ie. Touya has innate power greater than Sakura. Sakura doesn't increase her power until she starts collecting the cards. I won't say more.

Touya isn't as powerful as Sakura and at the end of the Second series he gave his power to Yue so now he doesn't even have powers. Does he? maybe he does but not enough to last through eriol's spell but then again he was never powerful enough not to fall asleep by the sleep card.

Actually, his ability to perceive the real and the magical shows that he, assuming that as magical power increases so does the ability to distinguish one from another, has more power than Sakura for much of the series.

As for his falling to the power of the cards, there are at least 3 explanations for this. Either

1) the cards effects are selective according to Sakura's commands.

2) the cards themselves can make up for the shortcomings of the user to some extent.

3) Touya fakes it. This is drawn from his and Kaho's conversation in ep46.
