Not a bad guy really ,I mean it might have been seem in the beginning that he looks like he's bad ,but he's not ,in fact i think that he got to the end quite good and valient ,and here's why.

First of all he did dream for a united lodoss ,of course his means were unorthodox and he also value somekind of loyalty.
Further more in the 2nd Arc he grow even more as a person ,when he first fights parn he said that there's a reason why he've lost to Kashue the first time, and that was because he didn't care for his subjects and other people much, he learned that you cannot rule without subjects, that's why he released the Kanon villigares ,and that's why he retreated back to Marmo when they foothold on Canon was taken by Princh Reona and Parn, he wanted to ensure the wellfare of his people.

In his last fight with Parn ,Ashram said that the marmo had to attack the main island to ensure the survival of the Marmo ,after all the dark island was monster infested (which brings the question how they survived so far), and the last duel wasn't that to the death ,it wasn't even that important by much to Ashram ,he only cared for his subjects.

So i think that Ashram came out in the end as a rather good guy ,after all Hobbs saw it in him.

:heh: did i make any sense here?

Joke's on him though, since Marmo was saved lol.

But yeah,he is in his way a hero. You shouldn't let yourself be deceived by his black armor and his demon sword,Soul Crusher.

Personally I've never viewed Ashram as the typical bad guy of RoLW. He's showing several "good" sides in both the OVA and the TV Series - sides such as loyality, "friendship" - just with the wrong people apparantly, and so on (I couldn't think of more *blinks*).
He's a rather good guy in a badass disguice.

Speaking of Ashram... I think the portrayel of ashram in both the OVA and in the TV was very different. I felt like in the TV series, there was a strong emphasis to point out that Ashram was a good guy, he just used very different methods from the "typical" hero. In the OVA, no matter what anyone says, Ashram is the epiphany of straight up bad ass. Yea, he had his moments where he could prolly have been seen as being good... but no good guy would allow the rebirth of a demi-goddess. Thats my take on it... (if this sounds confusing I do apologize. :heh: )

I don't think in the OVA he really cared as to whether or not the goddess was revived. He just wanted to settle things with Parn. Atleast that's how I saw it...

Haven't seen the TV series yet though so can't comment on that.
