i just saw Akira on dvd, it was a maad movie but there were many things i did not understand
example that little spacey bit at the end idunno what happened. can someone plz explain??

It didn't live up to the hype, for me. Actually, I didn't find it intertaining at all. Actually, I think it's the worst anime I've ever seen.

I just watched Akira again (I have the special edition tin :) ) so I felt id post a little bit. You said you had problems with the end, this is how i see it starting with his metamorphasis at the stadium. Towards the end Tetsuo's psychic powers are out of control, anything that enters his mind his body is just reacting, in earlier you saw that he was able to manipulate concrete, steel and flesh as if they were one, so when he starts exploding he is collecting everything around him and forming some gelitenus body, his body is out of control. Then akira is called, apperently akira was trapped/residing in the beginning of a new galaxy (ie: a big bang), I beleive akira himself created this, with the power of the universe why not create? Akira appears and drags everything in the vicinity of the area into his 'big bang' (thats the white light you see), this is backed bythe rat-looking scientist saying "what? what could this be? its the beginning of the universe.." or something along those lines. Kaneda is accidently pulled in, this isnt suppose to happen, hes an innocent, so the 3 wrinkled children (the other psychics like Tetsuo) go in too. With their combined power they teleport Kaneda back into his galaxy (apperently this takes alot of mental energy and can only be done by the 3) All throughout the movie they keep hinting that Kay (I beleive thats the females name) is special, im thinking she is like Tetsuo but just not awakened yet. She apperently helps in bringing Kaneda back, atleast thats what kaneda says. Anyways, thats pretty much the end of the movie and I hope that it helps you understand the ending, atleast from my point of view.

I think if you want to completely understand Akira, you should watch it minimum 3 times. That's the basic.

Well the ending was that Akira had to destroy Tetsuo..and the only way was to take half of Neo tokyo with him so That's why there was a big explosion. The psacy bit at the end was Tetsuo saying who he was to god....i think:lol:
