View Full Version : Vroom Vroom! Initial D
I love this manga. I was wondering are there as many people outside of Japan and Hong Kong who like this anime too??
Also, I would like to know, why don't americans drift? Your street races are weak... and drag races suck. NO skill in the actual driver. Just step on the pedal.

Initial D is a great anime, I've seen it all. Not much in terms of plot, but the music is excellent and I love the races. Takumi may be a half-awake idiot but he sure can drive.
And our drivers having no skill is not true. Our cars aren't built to drift. As typical Americans, we build our cars large and with a lot of horsepower, so we prefer a grip style of racing rather than a drift style. Watch Indy racing, that's a form of racing where you're not supposed to drift, and if by chance you did, you'd probably slide off the track and crash into something.

Jeez Rui. You sound just like Yumi this one time i was talking to her on IM. She just randomly Started saying Vroom Vroom and talking about cars. Scared the crap outta me, i thought maybe the stress from the coming wedding had broken her....

pfft
grip style can kiss my pretty-boy behind. That does not show any kind of skill in terms of driving. Just engineering skills when it comes to big horsepower. Big fugly cars.
zooming around in a circle isn't my style. I'd like to see an american try to drift.
I like power to weight ratios to an absolute minimum while american cars are just brute force. Reminds me of junkyard wars. :p

haha, i got the vroom vroom from yumi. it kinda stuck to me when she said it. The first time i heard her say it, she was on that huge-ass motorcycle of hers.
Yeah, I'm a pretty big fan of Initial D too, even though it is a bit cheesy in parts. I haven't seen that much of it though (only extra stage and some of second stage). Though I'm currently getting third stage. I love the idea of Touge racing... like in initial D (anyone got the chance to see some real Touge???). In Australia drift racing is relativley unknown, though there are a few organised groups trying to spread it's influence, like The Kings of Drift in Sydney.

rui, you sound pretty racist and biased about American cars. Not for nothing, but us Americans call Jap cars little light-weight rice burners that would be torn apart if they ever crashed into a big American car. Hey, us large Americans like our space, and your stupid little cars are cramped, typical of Japanese that have no self-worth but work for the greater good of the whole and not for themselves. I like having a couch in the backseat of a Cadillac.
See? I can be an arrogant idiot too.

hey! i did say they have engineering skills when it comes to big horse power didn't i?? But american cars just wont do when it comes to racing. They are too heavy. you try turning sharp corner with a couch in the backseat. American cars have their purposes... pulling things, pulling more things, pulling lots more things, and crushing things. But they cannot do much in terms of racing that requires you to turn tight corners. Drag racing, american cars could kick rice rocket ass... maybe ;) (there are rice rockets with 450+hp)
again i state... I'd like to see a cadillac drift :p

*coughHennessseyVenom800Rcough*
830 HP
0-60 MPH in 2.4 secs
top speed is 235 MPH
I think it can outspeed any one of your cars Rui.....
Steering is a bit dicey, but thats because the engine is so damned torquey from what I've heard.
It takes a lot of skill to drift and it may look beautiful. But there really isn't any substitute for grip.

I'd like to see a grip-style racer race me down a mountain pass against my drift-style. haha
Sure we seem arrogant, but racers are supposed to be cocky aren't they?
and rui, i'll get to your suspensions soon enough. just give me a couple of days... at least past my birthday. oh and you better get me something good! I bought you those suspensions.

heh, good thing i scrolled down the whole thing before i posted another initial d thread thingy. Anyways, what do you guys think about it...i only read two people's opinions about it and the rest is like import vs. domestic thingy...
yes and don't forget my post which told you that a new initial d anime was being made called
initial D battle stage
:p
I think Initial D is best described as Captain Tsubasa on wheels. The show is good fun, it is not the best of stories, the characters may lack depth, it might not be the funniest of shows, but it is enjoyable. The subject matter really helps, if you like cars, even a little bit, you will find the show interesting. They do a MUCH better job with the subject matter than that crappy movie The Fast and the Furios.
The animation is a mix of normal 2d animation and 3d CG for the cars. The animation itself felt kinda strange at first as all the characters looked fugly for some reason. But you get used to it after a while. The choice of CG for the cars is commendable, but the quality of the CG, especially in the first season, was nothing spectacular. Although compared to a show like eX-Driver, the CG cars adds a lot of realism and feel to the races. Seeing things such as weight shifting and drifting in 3D makes it worthwhile. The soundtrack is simply stellar. It is easily the best aspect of the show. There are over 12 soundtracks released for initial D, and I wish there were more.
As for the story, it is not the best, but it isn't the worse either (that title would have to go to teh Fast and the Furious). But this is not a story anime anyway, or else it wouldn't have been about street racing. Considering that this is a street racing show, the story is pretty decent. It doesn't get too boring and holds your interest enough to keep on watching the show. The characters in the show are cool, kinda shallow, but cool nonetheless.
Initial D is definatly a show to check out.
P.S. Battle Stage?!! Woohoo, more Initial D!
P.P.S. Woohooo, more Initial D music!
