About what specifically? You'd make my job a lot easier if you told me:
History of Lodoss' fictional world
Age of the Gods:
There was an age in which Gods walked the realms, and with them the first life born on the planet, the Eternal Dragons. A war broke out among the gods of light and the gods of darkness, eventually only 5 dragons were left, and only 2 gods survived, one Marfa, goddess of Creation, and Kardis, goddess of Destruction.
In the final battle, they both wounded each other, though Kardis more. Kardis was imprisoned in the land, and that land became an accursed place called Marmo. Before she was completly sealed, however, Kardis cast a curse on the continent that would then come to be known as Alecrast. As Marfa floated up to the Ethereal realm to take her final resting place, she used the last of her power to perform a miracle, seperating Alecrast into two landmasses, which stopped the curse from proceeding. The uncursed and much larger continent is known as Alecrast, the smaller, cursed section, is Lodoss.
The Demon King:
Though no one knows why, the god of Evil (not Falaris, he is the god of darkness) was reborn in a mortal form...a POWERFUL mortal form. He was known as the Demon King, and raised a kingdom of evil creatures in Marmo, the land where Kardis' evil still held influence. He attacked Lodoss with great ferocity, attacking with demons as well as goblins and ogres. Eventually, Lodoss sent 6 famous warriors (actually 7, though only 6 were acknowledged as the heroes) who managed to kill the Demon King. Two of those heroes were King Fahn and Beld. They were both good friends, but Beld was the one who killed the Demon King, and his sword was bathed in the Demon King's blood. This evil possessed him, turning him into an evil man, and his sword became the Demon Sword Soul Crusher. Fahn returned to rule Valis, but Beld was eventually drawn back to Marmo, where he took control of the evil there and became Emperor.
The OVA series:
30 years after Beld's fall into shadow, evil has regenerated, the goblins and ogres now begin to feel the presence of Marmo's power. Emperor Beld is finally ready to launch his master plan. He attacks Lodoss in a campaign to conquer it all and stop his (now) enemy Fahn's idea of unity. Parn and co. get caught up in this war, known as the War of Heroes.
TV series:
Based on Novels 3, 4, 6, and 7 of the books, this series follows events after the War of Heroes much closer to the books, whereas the OVA series, based on Novel 1 for episodes 1-8, had its own unique conclusion in episodes 9-11. It details the Black Knight, now in possesion of the Demon Sword and ruler of Marmo, trying to get the Scepter of Domination, and Parn and Co. attempts to stop him. It then jumps 10 years, and shows the war of Kings, the struggle to free Allania from the tyrrany of Duke Rastor as well as the struggle to liberate Kanon from the Marmo. Additionally it focuses on Spark and a new set of characters who set out to stop the resurrection of Kardis, which is the goal of the Dark Marmo wizard Wagnard.
The history of Lodoss in the real world:
Was created as a 3 book supplement to an RPG called Sword World which was based loosely on America's Dungeons and Dragons game. It became quite popular at the time.
Rio Mizuno, a member of the company who made the RPG, turned it into a set of novels. Originally planned to be a trilogy, its popularity was quite surprising, and he expanded it to 7 novels.
A manga was then began, following the novels very closely.
In 1989, plans set in motion to create an anime. A 13 episode OVA was in production, the first 8 episodes to be based on the First novel, but with 2 major differences (Beld's death and the apperance of Shiris and Orson), the remaining 5 had a conclusion unique to the OVA.
It premiered in 1990.
In 1998, the TV series was made, 27 episodes meant to follow the novels more closely. The first 8 episodes are novels 3 and 4, 9-27 are novels 6 and 7.
