I only saw this link, didn't read anything except the box. Flames are welcome if I read wrong.

Without looking any further than the picture, I think it's another one of those joke things like that EVA one with the old Shinji and Asuka. Either that or it's a picture of one of the many versions floating around the web.

Yeah it could be a hoax without anything else to go by on it other than that and if it is a hoax then those people sure knew what they were doing! The font used for the titile is the exact same one for the proper official english release (maybe it was copied or found similar fonts??). Either way, that's a really nice painting!

But I think there's still a chance of it coming out in english though on DVD cause over here, I just saw a Sol Bianca 1&2 DVD brought out by the same people who bought out DYRL in english. It's the first time I've seen them bring out a DVD, so as for extras (language options) and quality, I really can't say but they did have subbed videos....Here's hoping :D

Well, all I can say is that if it is in fact a hoax of some kind, the people playing it must value their personal well-being very little. Anime fans (myself included) tend to get frothy-mouthed and wild-eyed when they get pissed off at someone who turns out to be jerking their chain. The only other people on the planet who are more territorial and defensive (and sometimes downright strange) about their favorite series are Trekkies, but I'm not even gonna go there.

On a slightly related note, I've heard that DYRL is in a kind of liscensing limbo right now. I'm really not sure who owns the distribution rights to it, but I read that some sort of resolution is pending and that it should be released on DVD sometime in the future. I sure as hell hope it's gonna be released soon, or all the rabid anime fans will band together and utterly destroy those who would inhibit it's production, and I'm talkin' the real Biblical kind of destruction, too; Nothing low-budget.

Actually come to think of it, I think it's the cover for the Japanese DVD release (which I think should have been obvious to all of us :heh: ) cause I just picked up the asian release the other day (WHOO HOO!!) and it had the same cover without the english text (all of that was on the back). As per usual with the asian version, there's no extras what so ever and the subs on this one was pretty well done which is a relief. Quality visual wise, it's okay (maybe abit more to better than nothing) but it's still cleaner than the video version so that's good.

I also had the chance to pick up Flashback 2012 (WHOO HOO!!) but it wasn't really that worth it... The long songs have been cut down to 2 minute stuff and the new footage was only the first 2 minutes and last 3 minutes.... so if you have the old series or the movie (where the clips are from) and you have the soundtrack too, then it's not really worth buying unless you see it really cheap from somewhere... The new footage was cool but having only three minutes of it was abit of a let down and the whole thing went only for 30 minutes as well....

Anyone else seen it yet?

I've never seen Flashback 2012 itself, just the AMV of it. So that probably means I've seen all the new footage, but I'd still like to see it anyways.

What I really want is a copy of DYRL that has the original ending with part of Flashback 2012 during the end credits.

The extrememly limited Australian/UK release of DYRL (which I think were only available in video shops here to rent) has that version with the Flashback 2012 ending but it's only until the bit where she twirls around into that dress and flies off into the sky and that's it, then the credits resume. I still haven't checked if the asian version has that ending though....hope it does

It was extremely limited because it was technically an illegal release. It has never been licensed. And you have the wonder people at Harmony Gold to thank for that. They have been somewhat unreceptive to Macross DYRL being released because they see it as interfering with the Robotech timeline

They (Harmony) need to get over it and let DYRL be released. They should be a bit more considerate to the fans instead of worrying about the timeline (which doesn't really matter anyways...). So what if it interferes with it, fans really could care less since its the fans who control what gets released and what not. :redhot: I really can't stand the polotics and stances companys take at times.

Harmony Gold and who ever else has the rights to the english Macross can go suck.... I'm glad some body went over their heads and released it in english in some form despite it's limited release.

Don't they realise that they lose money by being so stingy? I know for sure now that everyone will go out and try to get their hands on the asian versions despite the quality being below good (outside of Japan's version) but at least then they can watch it.

I don't know why Harmony Gold is so stingy anyway....they're actually proud of Robotech? All they did was rip off and mangled three shows and translated bits of it to their own liking and called it theirs...

If they are actually proud of it, it'd only be because what they did was the only way to get some anime onto the US screen. Besides, Macross didn't get as mangled as the other 2.
