I saw the Escaflowne Movie at Anime Expo 2000. I personally think it is one of the best Anime Movies I have seen, my only complaint is, it is too short the characters aren't given enough time to develop. The Movie is a stand alone plot that is a retelling of the series in a very different way, with each character portrayed differently. The movie is much more mature than the series and is insanely cool, especially the music. The response at AX was very positive for the movie, but I doubt it will be released in the U.S. theaters since Fox is screwing the series over. Excpect it on video and DVD early 2002 according to Bandai.

the movie is good and the plot was very cool. too bad i never liked the escaflowne character design. to me, that was the only downfall of the movie.
i havent seen it coz the video store said that it wasn't released yet, now is that true?

Yeah it's true. I don't even think it's even been released on video in Japan yet.
I have seen it. It was definatley cool but I didn't realy like the animation that much, at least not as much as the show's animation. Then again, it could be just the quality of the copy.........

I saw it sometime last year.. a while ago. Supposedly before the people in Japan. I thought that it was really well done.

I saw it. Good show, but has practically NOTHING to do with the series, so don't watch it expecting a sequel (which I did :()

well, it has SOMETHING to do with the tv series, mainly the characters (at least the names) and Hitomi going to Gaea. :D
but I know what you mean. in terms of story and character design, don't be expecting the same stuff in the movie.

That's why I said PRACTICALLY nothing to do with the series..... :P
i like the movie...
the character development was a little bit short 'coz they compressed the whole series into one movie...

I personaly liked the movie. I own the movie box set, all eight volumes (26 episodes). I'm not sure if the dubbed version is out yet, I have the uneddited subtitle version. to me I'm glad I got it.

I saw it a while back. The relation to the series is minimal; same characters, but they all have a different look and different attitudes. Example: Millerna goes from being a naive princess to Allen's tough-as-nails second in command (the men under him address her as 'Princess' as a joke). The tone of the movie is far darker, as well, and most of the cast seems older. Naturally there isn't as much time for devlopment, but look at it as a self-contained story rather than viewing it as a part of the series, and it works very well. I liked it, but I wish they had kept more of the original music from the series.
Oh yeah, Folken is no longer a tormented bishounen; he's eeeevil.

oy, u guys liked a girl in gaea? despite the fact that i am a die-hard escaflowne fan, i was - unfortunately - sorely dissapointed with the quality of the film, music and animation aside i thought the film kinda stunk and did not come close to giving justice to the series. the story didnt come close the the ingenuity and complexity of the story, and i absolutely HATED the ending. even the fights were poor at best, [especially alseides vs. escaflowne, a fight that should have been one of the best but failed miserably]
in the end i'd probably give it an 80% or so. ::sigh:: guess i'll just have to pray that bones does cowboy bebop right. *crosses fingers*
i saw the movie at anime expo 2000 and it kicked ass and i haven't seen the series before!

The fact that the characters didn't development that much, (compared to the series), the movie didn't really appeal to me. I enjoyed the series so I was kinda disappointed when I saw it because of the differences. Some of the artwork was really good, though I would prefer the series any day.

I didn't like a lot of the choices for the voice actors... Perhaps if I had watched it without seeing the series first I would have a different opinion but I just felt like they changed much more than they needed to... I liked the animation in it though and the music was pretty good too...

I thought all voice actors for the series played their old roles for the movie. (except the princess..can't spell it, so I won't bother humiliating myself by trying.)
