How are the Evangelions made?
Are they "grown" in a lab or something?

Can't say I know the answer to that...I guess the biological bits are 'grown' and the mechaniucal and electrical systems built around it...

Does anyone else have an answer? Access, Captain Jake, I'm looking in your general direction :D

boy, commander ikari must really know his way around, well, i remeber in episode 20, or 21, i can't remember exactly, but when unit 01 went berserk and ate the S2 engine, Dr. akagi said the the big shoulder blades were "bindings" so i think that the clone of adam is grown, to a full adult form, then they put the bindings on it, and then the armor n ----.

hmmm... never thought of that before but i think i'll have to agree with the Commander on this one

Pauses a moment to bask in the praise and adulation.....

My answer is really the only logical one...There is no real answer shown in the series. And the quote that Eva00Kai pointed out seems to be the only mention that I can think of on the subject...

But, I'm sure Access and Captain Jake (if he turns up) will have something to say on the subject :D

well, another thing that is relevant-in episode "asuka strikes" at the very end, kaji shows gend ikari the suitcase with a frozen clone of adam inside, i don't know if that has to do with anything, but i think that that is one of the bio-components required for the creation of eva.

well it's actually the original adam.

they put the bindings around the eva as it grows, and they grow it piece by piece (or they wouldn't be able to replace parts like they do.) Plus remember that shot in 'the birth of nerv' of Eva-00 with just the head, hands and spinal cord?

as to who they're cloned from.......don't get me started here. It's ultimately up to speculation. In EoE they rfer to Unit-01 as 'the clone of lilith' but cap points out to the eva's body shape as evidence that they're clones of adam. go figure.

It is said that Unit-01 is cloned from Lillith and Unit-00, Unit-02, Unit-03 and the Eva series with the S2 engines are cloned from Adam. I understand why Unit-01 was cloned from Lillith (IMO), they required a back-up just in case using Lillith failed, because for man to control third impact and survive, they would require a vessel their souls could merge with and they can only return to the one from which they were born. That is Lillith, more to the point Lilliths egg, which turns out to be the geofront. Maybe this is supposed to be humanities Garden of Eden (hahaha).
What I like to know is, if the other units were made from Adam, how did they get his DNA material to clone from and make them in the first place?

Pen2, i dont think they are grown piece by piece, if you remember the evas are capable of regeneration - there is this ep (i dont remember but its somewhere at the end of the series) where they show a scene of an eva and someone is saying on the microphone that ...regeneration of the left/right (?) arm is ___% complete.

As for the hands, head and spinal chord, didnt those things look metallic? I was assuming that they were the mechanical systems which the biological parts had to be grown around.

oh...nevermind

First episode. That angel grabs 01's left hand and break it, badly, if I recall correctly. Then, in the next ep, the battle is still going on, and 01 goes berserk, regenerates it's wrist, and pounds the angel.

the most intence episode is the one where unit 01 goes berserk, loses it's arm, regenerates it then eats the angel

Oh i don't really mean when it's repaired (well okay i did, curses foiled again) but when they originally construct them they focus on one section at a time, hence the development of Unit-00 having only the head and the hands, fully armoured, not entirely made of metal. (course now you've made me have to go off and rewatch the episode to be sure of myself :p)
